Question On board or not on board sound

    Question:

I have the Nf7-S rev 2.0 motherboard and a Creative Audigy 2, which I brought from a forum about a month ago.

Which sound device do you think I should use, I have heard a lot of good things about the on board sound on the Abit.

I think the Creative Audigy 2 will have better sound?

I want to create and Listen to MP3,
    Watch DVD in 5.1

I have the Altec Lansing ADA885MG speakers.

What are you views and thoughts.

If you hadn't bought the Audigy, I'd have said stick with the nForce2 audio, but if you've got the Audigy, you might as well use it.

Yeah if you had not bought the audigy2, the nforce2 mcp-t sound is great, but as you have an audigy 2 use it, it is better .

I'm thinking about using the on board idea, than the audigy2, I'll probably put that up for sale.

I suppose the quality of Audio on the audigy2 will exceed the on board by far or am I wrong?

erm, why don't you try listening to them both ? you'll get a much better idea of the sound than reading about them !

Audigy is much better, your ears will tell you that. I'm still using and old Sonic Fury card on my other machine which is better than onboard.

Easy tesy is to lisiten to a high (192+) MP3 through both audio, I guarantee a PCi sould card will be better.

Having said that Nforce on-board is still cool than preveious on-board solutions for those on a budget, especially the DDigital capability!

Audigy is pretty much the same as nforce2 mcp-t sound, audigy 2 is supposed to be better and has EAX 3 support in a lot of the latest games.

I'd say any nF2 with the FULL nVidia audio solution (MCP-T / Soundstorm) is easily as good as Audigy, diffs woudl be small except the nF2 sound comes virtually free. Try them both in what you plan to use them with, but considering you'll still get a good price for that Audigy it would make mroe sense to use the nF2 onboard audio as it is streets ahead of the other onboard audio solutions currently available. nF2's strongest point is VERY low CPU usage, ideal for gaming or multi-tasking.
