    Hand picked chips

Does anyone know where they will check the codes on the processor before you buy them?

Specifically I'm after an 3.2Ghz E0 Prescott, I've checked all the usual places and not many places even stock them now, never mind having the right stepping, so I've got a feeling this might be a tricky one to find

    Thx

You could try going to some small PC shops - the best way is to be a good friend of someone who works or owns a PC shop, then they can keep watch on the stock and when they get a goodun they'll put it aside rather than putting it in some old dearys rig thats going to play solitaire till the end of its days

I had to go through a friend with considerably more contacts with me to get hold of my 3.0ghz EO Prescott. I can ask him if he knows where to get one but i doubt itll be as convinient as an online shop.

Also i dont know what you think of buying processors on ebay, my next door neighbour had no problems buying the same chip as me from this guy but he doesnt seem to have anything other than the 3.0e at the moment.

I've seen a couple of 3.0 E0's on ebay recently, almost bought one last night tbh, but I really want a 3.2.

It'd be cool if you could ask your friend Scarlet Infidel, but I'm not holding out much hope atm

Just out of interest, how does your 3.0 E0 clock?

Its a little hard to tell so far, im still using the stock hsf and 'thermal' pad. But i have it running stable at 3.71ghz with 1.45v at about 58 degrees load.

Tomorrow i am going to volt mod my motherbaord because the Vcore is all over the place. I am going to get some basic watercooling or maybe make some and my neighbour is going to lend me some AS5 too.

Btw his gets about 3.8ghz on stock vcore (1.4v) and stock hsf at 60 degrees. So i think he definately got the better chip.

I hope i can push it a bit further with the mods and cooling, i can post at 3.9ghz with a higher voltage but this is far from stable so this is my target speed. My neighbours target is the 4ghz barrier.

Well i did the volt mood (or droop mod) on my board today. I think i may have reseated my hsf badly as its a little hotter than before and the fan is going faster.
After checking with SpeedFan the voltages are much more stable.

I did a quick test and its stable at 3.75ghz where it wasnt beofore. But it was getting too hot so ill try putting on some proper thermal paste and seeing how high itll go and remain stable. I cant wait till i get some watercooling now to really push it, or even better a used vapochill if i can find one cheap enough....
