2 PSU's ?????

My 350W power supply blew up the other day, my fault, after some work inside the case, i plugged the power lead back in the PSU with the power turned on, thus the supply went pfffft

i have a 200W PSU running the PC at the moment, well allmost ruuning it, i have had to take out a CD drive and 2 SCSI HD's (the PC wont even boot with them plugged in, i have tested them all on there own, and they all work, so it must be the drain on the power

My question, can i add a second PSU i have here to power the SCSI setup and some fans ??????

the case has space at the bottom of it, will just need a little trimming of the back

I know a new PSU is only 15 quid, and i will most prob order 1 when i order some more stuff, but for the time being is it safe to use 2 PSU's ???????

I know there are plenty of other issues involved, something called low frequency hum IIRC. IMHO run your system at its bare minimum (at your own risk) until you can get a replacement PSU. When it comes to PSU you should consider brand matters more than anything esle (much like RAM), ideally Antec or Enermax although other good brands are ToPower, S.Flower, Sparkle and ThermalTake. 350W is a pretty bare minimum, makes more sense to pay a little extra for a 400W. A good branded 350W is much better than an unknown 400W-500W so bear that in m ind when you shop. Unless you care little for your components it makes sense not to skimp on the PSU.

When you get your new PSU get at least a 400W one. Oh and £15, it can't be that good ... Might blow again

i run two psu's in my old tower without issue. i use one for the 10hd's and 3 cd drives and the other for the motherboard. i used to run two cases in the old days. one of the benefits of a scsi based setup. if i forgot to turn the second psu you could do it post boot and just refresh explorer and the other disks would appear.

Also rem there are diff voltage rails, the over all Wattage does little to tell you what it will run esp if it's an unknown brand (which often inflate the claim in the first place). Using 2 PSU's may be fruitless if you run all of your IDE on one and your other kit on the other ... depending on what rails things pull off.
