    Wink Northbridge fan

Is it just me or does the Northbridge fan on the NF7-S seems to be at little bit noisy?

Yes the NB fan on the NF7-S v2.0 is awful ... both loud and low quality. Stick a passive solution on instead, you won't regret it. The NB fan makes more noise than all my other fans put together ... it is easy to change though, 2 clips (take the mobo out) ... they don't even use enough paste ... shame on Abit!

I believe the NF7-Sl simply omits the SATA-to-IDE adapter (runs PATA as SATA). http://www.abit.com.tw/ - may not be sold in all countries so check a few diff language websites.

Wow Fondie did not realise you have quite a smilar set-up to me:

lol, beyonce it is i don't have a high-res image i'm afraid, was taken from a crappy scan (once it's an inch tall you can't tell) i found on the net :-

but here are another couple, again not high-res for you :-

you do indeed have a similar setup to me, cheeky bugger surely corsair xms4200 is a bit overkill, if it exists that is! my marantz SR6300 is great a v.fine piece of kit, and once i get my new BKE XLS200 sub set up on it! i don't think there's too much difference between the two models tbh! you're missing out on the extra rear channel for 6.1 though, 'tis great fun!

    beyonce

lol, i've only had one complant from a neighbour, and that's without the sub i can't wait to set it up, a proper sub really does add a different element, that .1 sure feels like a whole lot more!

It would appear that all you're missing from the SL version is the converter which allows you to use ordinary IDE HDs (PATA, eg ATA100, ATA133) on the SATA controller on the mobo ... no real advantage except it allows more seperate channels for connecting IDE devices ... nothing you'd miss. Do check the diffs though, as I'm not 100% certain on the SL.

I've taken off the Original Fan and replaced it with a Zalman ZM-NB47J,
Does it matter if the Zalman ZM-NB47J does not cover the whole Northbridge. It seems leave a 0.5 cm gap at the sides, is this normal?
