    Ryzen laptops worth it?

For laptops, I've plucked for intel i3 in the past and forgot about it. Amd didn't really come into it due to poor battery performance.

Is the situation better for Ryzen on laptops as I've seen a few models with Ryzen 5 around the same price point as the intel offering.

Anyone bought a ryzen laptop... are you happy with the performance overall?

    Re: Ryzen laptops worth it?

Looking at laptops myself at the moment, did a little research on the Ryzen 7 3750h and it’s comparable to the i5, I think they are much better to what they are used to be but are definitely a cheaper option

Not sure how much of a gauge this is but i picked up a 3500u/8gb/256gb ssd for my lass for just over £310 on offer.

Considering it was a cheap general runaround i've been impressed. Quick, quiet and no regrets.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

    That's a bargain.

I'm looking for a budget laptop, at this level most are either Intel pentium gold or Ryzen 3. All else being equal does Ryzen 3 mobile chip offer some advantage over the pentium gold.

Aye it was during the ebay voucher code time, stores overprice on there compared to their own store but the code made it a bargain anyway.

As for R3 vs Pentium Gold. I reckon the R3 would be the better chip (you'd have to check some comparison graphs). Plus with Intel patching and repatching vulnerabilities every other week, well, especially with laptops i'd prefer to avoid that kind of thing as much as possible.

I have last year's Matebook D 14" with a 2500u and have been very happy. Battery life get's me through a day when I'm on the road and it easily outperforms my work.

I've recommended a few using the Ryzen 3 line and never had any problems with them

    Re: Ryzen laptops worth it?

Ryzen 4000 series laptops are every bit worth it. They have amazing performance that beats even the high end i7s. So if you get one, definitely recommended to grab it

Yes Ryzen laptops are worth it.....but ensure the cpu isnt let down by the two cost cutting cripllers.

    Ram and SSD

Win10 needs 8gb minimum ram...4gb is horrific. no cpu is getting you a nice laptop with 4gb

and a sensible sized SSD so windows boots fast, installs updates easily and can have all your required apps

i see 120gb 4gb laptops for sale and it makes me shudder

120 is enough to run windows easily if you don't need to store much, it's 32 GB systems that won't update

Nah, I've gotten them to update with a simple USB stick plugged in to add some breathing room. Can't remember exactly what I did, so it must have been easy.

OTOH, the machines I have used with 32GB of flash have all had 2GB of ram, and that is now just game over even for basic web browsing. Unless you install ChomeOS and convert the laptop into a Chromebook.

4000 series is amazing, I would go for it over Intel any day, sadly manufacturers screwed it up badly, 99% laptops have overheating issues due to lazy design
