    Zalman 7700-Cu

Basically all I want to know is, is this a decent cooler? Does anyone have it? I'm interested in cooling performance, not noise.

    Thanks in advance.

In my experience, Zalman stuff is pretty good, but they're designed with quietness in mind, rather than all-out performance... If you're not bothered about noise, something like a Thermalright XP-120 with a high CFM fan would probably serve you better.

Is the Thermalright XP-120 the best air cooling I can get for socket 478, or is there something better?

I have one, a gigabyte ultra GT & an XP 120. And I have to say the XP 120 is by far the best on my rig. S'why the other 2 are laying idle

Thanks. Also I read somewhere that it's difficult to install. Is this true?

Shouldn't be too difficult, though I don't know whether or not you'll need to remove the motherboard first. Also, check this page for compatability problems.

The 7700Cu is easier to install than mostclip on Coolers (In terms of socket) for any other socket it really easy aswell. I have used one for ages now and I think there a great cooler. You can put the no som many CPU's also

How much cooler than stock is the Thermalright XP-120 likely to get my CPU? Will it be a big difference?

    I got:
    Idle
    Gigabyte Ultra GT-39c
    Zallman - 38c
    XP-120 (+120mm Xinrullian) - 38c

    Load
    Gigabyte Ultra GT-47c
    Zallman - 49c
    XP-120 (+120mm Xinrullian) - 43c

That's with the variable speed controllers set to max on the first two, in the same setup (see below) with the same ambient room temp (aircon is wonderful), over 2 hours each time.

The Zalman heatsink doesn't have any heatpipe so you're likely to experience "heat lag" (Which is quite bad on 7000A-Cu already so it will be even worse for 7700-Cu)

It is also pretty easy to install, but becareful do not move the computer around with the 7700-Cu on, it is so heavy that it may break your motherboard. (My motherboard is slightly bent now)
