    TFT Monitor

    Hello,
I am really seriously thinking of ordering a Sharp LL-172A within the next few days. It shall be used for:

*Playing CS:S at 800x600 [due to graphics card only being a 9600xt]
*Browsing the web at its native resolution
*Doing (home)work and coding (as in programming)

So it needs to be able to play games ok (no ghosting), but also display text very well. Does it fill all of these points?

Is there another one in its price range that is better suited?

Is there another one that has the same features (don't care about speakers - won't be usoing them), but looks better (pic of the 172a -> http://images-jp.amazon.com/images/P...9.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

I have a black case and stuff so black would be better. I like the base of the G version more, but it is more expensive and don';t see why i should pay more for dvi when you can get the same quality with the A... just takes a bit longer

Also, wheres the cheapest to get this monitor?

    Thanks

Your CS:S will look fairly blured at 800*600. 9600XT is not that bad. I was playing HL2 at med quality 1600*1200 with my R9700Pro, which is about the same speed as a 9600XT.

IMOH picture sharpness is more important than detailed texture. Whats the point shooting enemies with a blur crosshair

If you are using internet alot you could consider a 18" or 19" instead of a 17" (Response time may be slowed down) That will give you less eyes strain. Text looks pretty small on 17"

How blury is blured? And i am on a 17" CRT (so smaller than a tft) and i am happy in the higher resolutions.

Do you know about screen scaling on TFTs? In short, say the monitor has a resolution of 1280x1024, and you feed it a signal of 800x600, since the screen literally contains 1280x1024 pixels, it scales the image, which can make it look blurry.

I dont find it much of a problem myself, but worth checking out beforehand.

Yea i know about it but donmt know what it looks like in real life tbh. But if it is a game it will be blury anyway (due to it not being straight lines like text is...) so it wont make much difference will it?

It helps for me, sort of anti-aliasing on my widescreen TFT.

In use under games, it doesnt make much difference.

You can try to use mspaint, open a 800*600 Screenshot of CS:S, then scale 160% for width and 171% for height. That should give you a rough (under)estimate what it will look like.

Don't use photoshop kind of stuff to scale up the picture, since TFT monitor scales up using simple dithering and not bilinear/bicubic filter, which looks better.
