    Asus Mouse Droppings

    I need to rant!

The only two Asus components on my build are the monitor and the mouse. The monitor is fine, and not a problem.

The mouse is another matter, though. I got it as it was cheap and functional enough for me to ignore the gently colour changing glow of the logo on its front. As a mouse it does what it's supposed to.

However, this lowly little blighter has given Asus the route in to load several files about it's 'Armoury' which I presume is a gaming thing. I've found an Asus directory in C:\Programs(x86), a load of update applications and .DLLs in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents, as well as automatically starting services. It had also subverted my keyboard so that it now has an Asus Armoury driver. Also, when I boot up, the first thing on the screen after I log in is an Asus message asking me to update it!

I have deleted, unistalled, disabled and removed what I can, so that the mouse and keyboard are just running on vanilla MS drivers.

However, after a little while the little mouse fights back, and all of a sudden I see that Windows is downloading an 'important' Asus Armoury update for the keyboard and mouse.

I realise that the mouse must have a bit of firmware in it which pushes the Asus line up to the PC, to ingtratiate itself onto my system. I find that I really resent this - what right does Asus have to foister software onto my PC which I do not want and did not ask for? Also, what on earth is it doing taking over the driver of my keyboard and frustrate me in removing it?

All because of an effing mouse - although Microsoft has something to answer for as well in terms of the bloating way it has developed Windows. I don't have these issues when I boot into Linux!

These automatic Windows 10 driver updates can be a pain in the lower-back.

There is a way to temporarily halt the updates, for me it reverts back to automatic every feature update, so you may need to manually uninstal the problematic driver and run this tool every time that happens.

Basically, you need to roll back the driver and uninstall the remenants of the driver pack you don't want, download and run the tool as per the link below and select the driver you don't want updated to be hidden.

Imagine how much easier it would be if MS trusted us with a simple check box to disable certain updates?

USB plug and play? Disable it and use generic mouse drivers?
