    Re: Quiet LED fans

my bitfenix case has single LED ones, but the LED has a removable jumper and extra cable so you can power the LED directly from a controller board independently of the fan. The case has LED switching etc which at the time I thought gimmicky but actually is jolly handy for tinkering inside the case, and for seeing when the thing is still powered on before you inadvertently touch something that's still live. That's 2010 tech if not earlier

It also means more cabling to tidy away, while fewer cables was clearly a selling point in 2012 when the AF120s came out, as many reviewers seem to praise the integrated connector approach.

Possibly, but a detachable jumper and an optional separate cable does not mean more clutter to people who want the simpler fitting - they don't have to use it. It seems like the best of both worlds to me. And routing one cable is not much different to routing two. Those leads are so thin, it's not like powersupply cables etc which are more of a PITA.

    Re: Quiet LED fans

I'd rather just have PWM fans (enabling constant voltage speed control) instead of needing to mess around with jumpers

it is a pwm fan the jumper is just to either power the LED off the fan feed or to allow connection of a separate cable for independent LED switching.

But that's still something hanging loose and untidily...
Like I said, that was what people wanted in 2012. Times change and so do requirements, which is why everything is all tempered glass with ARGB and no bay mod slots, nowadays.

LOL oh wow it tucks in the side, it doesn't have to sit out like that - most images don't even show it for that reason. It really is not an issue. But I'm not a rep and I don't care whether you like it or not, I'm just saying that having LEDs dim with the PWM is unnecessary and products are out there that avoid it if it matters to you!

It doesn't matter to me either, but it still mattered enough to other people who bought something different, and to those who made different products in the first place.
One reason some people liked LEDs that varied with fan speed is because it was a visual indicator, which is why that is an emulated option on some ARGB software today.
