SN95G5 - 200g sata drive shows up as 130

I need to know what I can do so that I can use my 200g seagate sata drive at its capacity. Currently, I've got bios version FN95S00Q and when I partition this drive, it only reads as a 130 gig. It works fine in my other pc, i.e it registers as a 200g. I have the SN95G5 barebones xpc. Running WinXp pro on both PCs.

I don't know a nice way to do it but (in Win2K at least) you need to add a new dword called "EnableBigLba" (and set it to 1) in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters

(using regedit - press the windows key + r at the same time then type "regedit" and press enter / click OK)

Oh - and then reboot.

Ive just bought a G4 and got exactly the same problem.

Do you do this before you install windows. Could you give us clearer instructions.

The reasoning for this is that Win XP only recognizes 137gb as its primary partition pre-sp1. You can install on the 130 gigs and then once windows is installed go into Disk Management and format the other 60 gigs so you will have two partitons. If you install the HD as your secondary and you have at least SP1 installed it will recognize the full 200. On Win 2k, I'm not entirely sure, but as a secondary drive and having SP3 I have no problems recognizing 200 or greater drives.
