I know it's a bit ridiculous to say that a $1500 gaming card is 'good value', but if you compare it to the RTX Titan (which is how Nvidia described it), it is better value (if the reviews back up the claims made by Nvidia for the 3090 performance).

Given the pricing, maybe it is more of a 3080ti than a titan, that'd give them more flexibility when they come to expand the range as you could have 3080 super and 3090 super models while still keeping a consistent hierarchy in the range.

    Re: Nvidia Ampere livestream event

The hype is obviously exciting but let us wait for actual reviews first. All out raster performance is still going to be the main driver of games.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I'd honestly expect to see that huge gap filled by the 3080 Super, 3080 Ti as well as also seeing a 3090 Super and 3090 Ti. There's room above and below the product stack pricing wise.

    Re: Nvidia Ampere livestream event

If you watch the DF video the RTX3080 is on average 70% faster than an RTX2080 at 4K.

Now some of that could be because the RTX3080 has 10GB of VRAM instead of 8GB. However,if you look at the TPU figures, that is exactly twice an RX5700XT. I suspect if AMD does have an 80CU RDNA2 part,it might actually be competitive in rasterised performance and AMD is on a superior process node.

    Re: Nvidia Ampere livestream event

they will, but not for a few months, usually dec/jan going by previous cycles.

my question which noone is answering, not even nvidia when asked directly, is whether they 3000 series are getting win7-64 bit driver support. It all becomes irrelevant if I can't dual boot my system between win7 and win10 on the machine.

The 3070 looks tempting. Might sell my card and pick one up.

anyone notice these are still HDMI2.1? I thought 2.2 was finalised now and needed for the higher res and refresh rates?

They have an RTX2080TI. It's a shame VRAM amounts haven't gone up this generation that much.

2.1 is the new standard for 8k / 4k120 etc. All previous cards had 2.0b

As for win 7 support, i wouldn't hold your breath the 20 and 16 series supports it (except the notebook edition) although they came out before win 7 went EOL, so it's possible but highly unlikely as the demand will be very low now.

Edit - AMD's 'superior' process node is a subjective one, TSMC's 7nm is fairly well known to have yield issues. Large power hungry chips are just not looking likely and they're struggling to meet demand. AMD have had a lot of cpu / gpu shortages, 4000 series amd laptops are still rare ~6 months after 'release' especially those with AMD gpu's eg Dell G5 15SE, Asus Rog Zeph is in limited supply (human malware did effect things but that should of passed by now)
I wouldn't be surprised if AMD use a multi chiplet design for a high end GPU similar to Zen 2 cpu's.
Anyone remember the Radeon VII, supposed to be the king 7nm GPU but it's went EOL after a couple of months on sale and has yet to be superseded

given the speculation that's where most of the heat comes from is it surprising? 3080 is 10GB GDDR6x vs 11GB GDDR6 in the 2080ti. Does that yield any benefit? Not in terms of memory buffer, is the throughput worth it?

The GPUs are made on Samsung 8NM which is basically a 10NM variant. I suspect its more the process node Nvidia are using.

    Not such a big increase!
