    Virtualink is dead :(

Was I that only one that used this for connecting my VR headset? I know that VR itself is a tiny market, but this is a big loss to me.
The VL "standard" itself was a bit of a failure, but you could use this port alongside a cheap USB-C hub to connect the headset + a sensor through one cable.

I have my Original Rift CV1 connected this way at the moment and it's much easier than needing 4 USB ports + a HDMI port free for it.

Sad to see this won't make it to the 30x Series of GPUs It doesn't work through a "normal" USB-C socket sadly.

My case has twin USB3 and twin USB2.
My Mobo has 10 different USBs of various flavours and my GPU has 3 DPs, with a spare HDMI intended specifically for VR.
I also have a 4-port USB expansion card, if I ever need it.

    Never needed Virtualink.

I don't on my current board - but it's a heck of a lot more convenient

My old board I needed to use a USB expansion board - which was a PITA as it needed a slot + power, and looked a bit of a mess.

Virtualink solved all those issues, and even now although I have enough ports for it, it's easier to unplug/plug in 1 cable than 4.

I guess there was just too much tech in it to make it affordable. Upping the cost of mainstream GPUs for something which is still niche isn't going to work as a business case. Having a single cable made up of multiple bundled cables, a passive box to join it all together and an option to make it magically supported without the box using a specialist GPU or laptop might have been better.

it was only on the higher end RTX cards I saw. The budget ones omitted it anyway. They could have carried on that way. Not that it matters much to me.

    Probably.

If it works as well as the dodgy Thunderbolt junk that pushed up the cost of my work laptop and docking station then I wouldn't want it.

The number of connections used by my old Rift is a bit annoying, I presume the newer Rift-S with internal cameras would be better.

I want wireless pcvr to become the standard, but how long are we going to be waiting? With pcvr looking more stagnant by the month, we might be waiting a while. HTC has their official solution but that comes with its own issues and costs a pretty penny. I hope Oculus has something planned for the next headset they release.
