    Problems with upgrade

    Hi I have upgraded my system with these items,

    Gigabyte Intel Z490 AORUS MASTER ATX Motherboard
    Intel 10 Core i9 10900K Comet Lake CPU/Processor
    Noctua Intel/AMD NH-D15 Silent CPU Cooler

    When I start the system it goes for about 1 minute and then reboots and keeps doing the same thing, I have removed and put everything back in , I have tried it with just two sticks of ram, I will be trying another power supply over the weekend but is there anything else I can try or do you have any idea what could be wrong. regards

    Does it work without the GPU in and using the CPUs iGPU?

    Are you getting in to Windows? Does all of your old equipment work fine if you have re-tried the components you've re-used?

    It might be worth just using 1 stick of RAM, get in to your BIOS, return to default settings and see if it is stable. Assuming nothing specific is broken/faulty, I do wonder if 4x8GB @ 3000MHz is too heavy on the memory controller in your CPU and might need a bit more voltage to stabailise.

    Again, just try with 1 stick and see how you get on.

    that motherboard has a debugging readout / LED display. What codes is it displaying? where does it get to before it resets?

    Re: Problems with upgrade

    Hi I formatted the 500gb me ssd, I am using the system on a 49" Sony bravio 4k tv and nothing shows on the screen and all was working before I upgraded. All cables from power supply were in the right place from previous motherboard so I was just able to plug and go, boot\debug leds jump all over the place ie. 00 2c SC 61 1e.

    I tried the system with two sticks if ram but the same happens, I have another power supply I will try that tomorrow I will also try switching the 8pin socket top left on the motherboard as there are two.

    and that debugging LED which is on the motherboard and nothing to do with your screen, what does it say?

    Re: Problems with upgrade

    The OP is a bit hard to follow, but it looks like you are trying to use the old Windows install.
    So the reboot happens after POST?
    And the system is stable inside the BIOS.
    Sounds like the obvious thing is to make a bootable USB and boot of that.
    LinuxMint is a good one as the live distros are easy to get, use a fair bit of hardware etc.
    A Windows installer would also do.
    Since you've formatted the 500GB, you should install onto that and maybe first remove the 1TB (so you can't accidentally delete it!).
    If I've misread what you mean and the system does not POST (in other words it reboots just in the BIOS), then you obviously have other issues

    yes it will, as it cycles through its POST checks. What's on the display when it resets?

    It keeps running through 00 2c SC 61 1e until it reboots which is every 60 seconds.

    Re: Problems with upgrade

    A link to the manual: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileLi...ter_1001_e.pdf
    Page 113

    00 not listed
    2c = memory initialisation
    SC is presumably 5C and = reserved (ie we're not telling you because too many variables to print)
    61 = NVRAM
    1e = reserved

    You're not getting to 31 which is memory installed, so it would appear to be a memory issue.

    Back to basics, install one stick only in the master slot and check it is within the default spec for the mobo in terms of stick capacity and timings.

    Re: Problems with upgrade

    If you disconnect the OS drive and just leave the PC alone, drop it into the BIOS and leave it there, see what it does, if it reboots still you have a hardware/BIOS issue, if it doesn't its the OS.

    Re: Problems with upgrade

    have a look at page 17. Have you got the RAM in the right slots, and is it properly engaged? Push down at both ends of the stick and make sure it's in properly. It's easy to think it's in but not have it properly engaged. That will cause a POST error.

    Did the machine work before with this same RAM set or have you recently changed it? If so do you still have the old RAM?
