    PC Speakers

Hi, not sure where to put this thread, so if this is the wrong place I apologise. I am after some PC speakers, I need good quality sounds but only with a pair and maybe a subwoofer due to the fact I don't like all of the wires hanging around with the 5.1 set ups. Suggestions anyone?

Personal fave of mine, Logitech Z3's Not a bad price either. Clear & crisp with plenty of low end grunt.

I have used a few sets of speakers and recommend the Creative SBS560 5.1 speakers as the choice for "budget" use.

Mid-range I would choose either the inspire GD580 with digital decoder or the logitech X-620's

Highend is a battle between Gigaworks S750 THX system and the Logitech Z-55's.

Personally I use the GD580 digitals as they perform great for the cash and use the digital link on my PC instead of all the "birds nest" of wires.

Alternatively, if you have a spare 10 grand, pop down to Bang & Olufsen and they will sort you out with some very nice speakers.

My set of Creative Megaworks THX 550 sounds pretty good (not as good as those which cost 5 grands or more though). Too bad it does not have digital input and wireless remote if you need them.

The bass is strong and deep but bounce quite easily. The speaker could go VERY LOUD if you max the volume.

I cannot fault Altec Lansing MX5020 2.0 speakers. Slim, two-speaker system that sounds very good after a few weeks of burn-in. They also have two inputs so I have my iRiver H140 music player plugged into the second input permanently. Good clear sound quality without a sub-woofer. Excellent speakers if you want to save some space. Available from Scan (which is where I bought mine). See my sig for a link to my rig's site for pictures of how they look once set up.

I like my Klipsch 2.1s, but in the future I'll be buying the parts piecemeal and setting up my own system.

To be honest, I'd also look at the types of control they offer / ergonimics. Most speakers in the mid range will all sound pretty good if they're seperately amplified and offer a small sub to fill in the lower end.

By control, I mean the volums knob, sound control (bass/treble). Is it on the speakers, on a wired remote, on an IR remote? Is there a headphone socket on the speaker / wired remote so you can play loud at night and not disturb everyone (if that's of interest)...

You'll be reminded much more in the long run by how flexible and easy the volume is to adjust than subjectively whether speakers A are 2-3% better than speakers B.

The thing i was looking for when i was buying my speakers were ones that don't distort at high volume. The mx5021's i have fit that just right. My gran lives next door and can tell what music im playing at half volume. Ive never put it on full as its unbearable even on 80%

Never heard them but but they seem expensive for the power
    2 x 9watt satellities + a 30w subwoofer

The mx5021's are a similar price and have 2x25watt sattelites and a 50w subwoofer

Maybe i just play my music too loud
