Asus not releasing Zen3 update for B450/X470 owners

Someone with the highest end Asus X470 motherboard(ROG Crosshair VII Hero X470) messaged Asus about when the Zen3 BIOS update would happen. MSI and others have already talked about the BIOS updates. Asus replied won't be supporting 400 series motherboards, and told the user to buy one of their 500 series motherboards:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comment...x470_board_to/

We have no plans for the Crosshair VII Hero to support the Ryzen 5900X, please purchase Crosshair VIII Hero and any Ass B550 motherboard that will support Ryzen 5900X and 5000 series processors.
It looks like my Asus Strix B450I,which despite have a 6+1 phase VRM and 32MB BIOS,won't get an update if the X470 Crossfire won't get it. That is the last time I will buy an Asus motherboard, and supports the rumours were that Asus was the OEM pushing most for AMD to drop 400 series Zen3 support. I should have gone with MSI.

Re: Asus not releasing Zen3 update for B450/X470 owners

Though you'd be all over that!

Well aside from having extra NVMe slots for B450 boards (compared to ASrock or MSI AFARI at least for mATX), was there any reason to go with Asus?

They have reputation for overpricing plus poor support, so not exactly a surprise. Still, if it gets reported enough they might change their mind.

Interesting about Asus lobbying for no Zen3 support for 400 series. I know AMD took most of the blame, but the OEMs must have lobbying for it - even if only hinting about how they would priorities Intel since they mostly force a new board with each generation.

Re: Asus not releasing Zen3 update for B450/X470 owners

They're really shooting themselves in the foot with this - I'd imagine that anyone told to get a 500 series that actually does so, will most likely choose one that ISN'T from ASUS.

As my first entry to Zen was my 3950X with a Gigabyte AORUS X570 motherboard, this obviously doesn't affect me, but it certainly puts me off from choosing ASUS in the future - or at least it does for motherboards at the very least.

Re: Asus not releasing Zen3 update for B450/X470 owners

Asus then have the arrogance to announce new B450 motherboards:
    https://www.kitguru.net/components/m...ng-in-october/

The only reason I got the B450I Strix was due to its top mounted NVME slot, and the 6+1 phase VRM and larger BIOS chip. The MSI equivalent didn't have enough fan headers too.

But if Asus support sucks so much, then it doesn't matter how well they design the motherboard.

TBF, Asus support has been practically non-existent for years. I hope this bites them in the arse.

It will for a few thousand globally that'll stop buying their stuff, not enough to make them give a crap...

Now the backtrack begins and now they said they will support X470(no B450?):
    https://twitter.com/planet3dnow/stat...04902393442305

But funny how they are trying to kind of blame AMD.

Re: Asus not releasing Zen3 update for B450/X470 owners

I bought an MSI board because they officially promised support for Zen 3. I didn't want to risk buying from another manufacturer because the long term platform support was such a big selling point for me. Asus were already notorious for support and this confirms it yet again. Asus AMD laptops are also horrendously designed with no ventilation so I think I'll just avoid them completely from now on.

Their support has let Asus down for as long as I can remember.

But I can imagine them doing the easy & expensive boards first, which would probably include yours and my X470 Pro given they have a nice big BIOS chip.

I also have a B450 board here, but I got that because it was a cheap board on offer so I wouldn't be as bothered. Would be nice to have the option though.

The thing with the B550 boards is they don't support my old 2200G chip. Well not officially, I did try on my Asrock board and it did boot, but it didn't like XMP enabled on the ram.

I hope so,the AM4 mini-ITX motherboards were more expensive relative to the Intel ones!!

This very poor, seems like a cash grab from ASUS, there is no other way of looking at it IMO.

Would only be a cash grab if people went out and bought another Asus board to get compatibility, but I suspect they would rather get just about any other brand if forced to do that.

Yeah, they dipped their toes in, found it to be a touch chilly and, hey presto: u turn.

    Seriously, what were they expecting?
