If AMD's claims about 6800xt performance are accurate. then it's no wonder NVidia shat their pants and launched the 30xx with hugely lower prices, than the 20xx.

Might be tempted by the 6800 at $579. Hopefully that'll be a bit lower, in GBP.

The RX6800 pricing won't really pressure the RTX3070FE. It might be a bit faster,and has 16GB of VRAM,but its nearly 20% more expensive.

OTH,60CUs being faster than an RTX2080TI might hint that the 56CU XBox Series X GPU is probably closer to an RTX2080TI than we think.

Not sure about a price "war". I think that might be overstating it. But a degree of pressure? Very likely. It's essentially game theory 101, the prisoner's dilemma, and hard to call whether either or each are rational, or greedy. Both will lose out in a war, though.

But personally, I hope for the war. That said, there's zero percent chance I would even consider a high-end board at £500, or more. £200 maybe. £250-300? If they caught me in the right mood I might go for it but, rationally, probably not because I think a £200-£300 board will do everything I need (and more, probably) and that price range covers a fair bit of differentiation. I'm simply not (these days) anywhere near enough of a gamer for £500 boards.

So I rely on the inexorable grind of new technologies to convert 'high end' performance of last or next to last gen boards into mid, or lower-mid boards that I might stump up for now.

I will probably buy a new PC, with at least a view to a reasonable gaming capability, some time in the next 3 to 12 months, but getting no change out of £20k on a new kitchen is putting a dent in my PC fun fund.

I think its competitor is the 3070ti that NVidia are supposedly rushing out, and reckoning that they'll probably charge $599 for it so you've got a cheaper and more efficient card, along with more VRAM at around that price point.

£400 is still too much for me, never went above £220 before.

Wonder what the perf/watt improvements mean for the lower end parts?
Last gen the ITX 5600XT was the most interesting AMD part as it was 17cm or so, quiet and top of TPU's perf/watt chart.

The 6900XT had a bigger perf/w advantage than the 6800XT, so it will be interesting to see if the reduction in gain continues down the stack. But I fear it will be some time before we find out.
