    Thumbs up Recommendations please

    Hi all,

I've got some big projects coming up, aligned with my newly renewed deep interest in gaming and building and doing weird stuff. Keep your eyes peeled, hoping to do something no-one's done before!

I'm the sort of person to research basically everything I buy in depth - I'm sure a lot of you are too. I'm catching up on a few different learning curves and to research something properly takes time - I was wondering if I could farm out some of that to people who have done it already, and are generous. Think of this as a kickstarter, favours for favours and all that.

The following things are needed for my experiments:

HDMI Cable 2.1 (not from amazon, doesn't need to be long)
    Dremel
    Multimeter
Wall Socket voltage meter or whatever that's called
    Soldering iron
Uh remote IR temperature sensor? Not sure what that's called either.

I don't have a particular budget in mind because I don't know how much things cost but I'm aware that you get what you pay for and am generally looking to get mid-range gear.

    TIA for your help!

There's so many mixed results out there at the minute, even with cables that certified, do you really need 2.1?

FWIW, I have a cable coming from Amazon this afternoon which was recommended by HDVTest so if that works with a 3070 & all 2.1 features, I can at least recommend a cable to you.

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Reccomendations please

Dremel are OK,but quality of newer ones is not as good as older ones apparently. An alternative is Proxxon which is German, which AFAIK are better made. But you are looking at close to £100 for the IBS/E. Dremel does have the edge in power though, although Proxxon is better for finer work. In both cases,I would go with the models with a higher power motor,as they will have more torque.

Multimeters - Fluke are probably amongst the best, but at a price. Brymen is cheaper but pretty solid(also OEM for many other brands),and EEVBlog seems to like them AFAIK. I got one of them many years ago when I saw a decent deal.

Soldering irons - I only have a basic Antex one which seems OK for the price. However,if you are doing a lot of it,maybe one of those soldering stations?? AFAIK,Hakko gets mentioned alot.

Thanks, yes please. No, right now I don't need 2.1 but I'll be looking to upgrade to 8k when they come down to the ~£1k mark (not the cheap Samsung that's ~£2k with a clamshell phone atm), and I want to be as future-proof as possible, given I'll also likely be acquiring a 3070 or better sooner than that.

    Re: Recommendations please

I suggest 3080 for instead of 3070 for future proof and value about the same for price to performance however with way stocks are you might as well wait for amd new graphics to compare which one to get.
8k is good for future proof however i think you should stick to 4k if its for gaming with higher refresh rate of 120hz.
If you want a multiple screen setup for multitasking you could always go for 4x4k monitor at smaller size which saves some money however there be a bezel in between depending what you get
