I like big BARs, and I can not lie

Interesting BIOS release for my ASUS X470 motherboard. No mention of "beta", will have to give it a try:

    PRIME X470-PRO BIOS 5809
    " 1.New CPU support
2.Offer a Re-size BAR Support option to enhance GPU performance.
    3. Remove AMD 7th Gen A-series/ Athlon X4 Processors support"
Note that this board has a large flash chip, but looks like they still took the route of killing off the old construction core parts. I guess that is how the AGAESA crumbles, but I can live with that.

But ooh, look at that shiny item 2 Now, do I need a 5000 series CPU to enable it is the question (Amazon have the 5800X on pre-order at under RRP, but I'll still wait). Clearly I don't need a 500 series motherboard. Sadly, I have to now go drive to the office and can't try this.

    AFAIK,the latest update for my B450I Strix which includes Zen3 apparently shouldn't be used if I don't have a Zen3 CPU...apparently.

That's what the previous beta BIOS (vers 5806) said for my board. This one (vers 5809) seems to just simply be a BIOS.

Edit: Go check, your board has a BIOS released yesterday. Also, your board doesn't mention deleting any supported CPUs. Nice!

Re: I like big BARs, and I can not lie

BIOS installed. All works fine, unless I switch on the rather prominent BAR resize feature on the main page. Then it boot loops back into the BIOS until I switch it off. It seems to switch off the CSM boot compatibility stuff when you turn that on, so it might just be that which stops me booting. Or it might be the 3700X. Still, I have the menu item, more than I had this morning

Or maybe it is just the way that AMD implemented it required PDEP, there are other ways to do the same thing, and now they'll have to rewrite it.
Wonder if legacy boot truly has to be disabled too, or if workaround can eventually be found?

As someone who has to use a riser cable in their case and cannot use Resizable BAR support, I wonder when we'll get really nice pcie gen4 risers.

    Never tried one.

Ever since trying a muzzle loading elephant gun (not near any elephants I hasten to add, not that they would have been in much danger) I found firearms a bit dull. Perhaps something like that could give some amusement though

I think I'd find target shooting interesting, not so keen on hunting living things however. If life depended on it and it was sustainable I could just about cope, but trophy hunting and "because it makes me feel like a man" "sports" No.
