What do you need to get with the £800? CPU, Mobo, RAM and Cooler presumably? What is it to be used for, gaming, gaming + streaming, programming, 3D design, video rendering, other?
Mainly for gaming. I am sure I can use the same RAM and Corsair H100 cooler. So mainly the board and CPU

edit: although I do think that the 5600x might be better https://www.scan.co.uk/products/3xs-...wraith-stealth put the money saved aside for now and when the gpu market settles down put it into a graphics card
For a substantial upgrade you're probably looking at the Ryzen 5000 series so the value picks are 5600X for around £300 or the 5900X for around £550 if you can find it.
For your budget I'd probably go straight for a 5900X but we can't buy it right now for love nor money.
If you need something in stock now then this bundle looks alright and allows you to drop in a 5900X down the line if you need:
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...ore-cpu-bundle
the bundle I linked also had ram ;)
5900X is the one you want, but sadly the one lots of other people want as well. The 5800X seems to be popping up in stock atm, and the old favourite the 3600 seems to be dropping in price nicely so stock is returning. If you wait then one should pop up at the sort of £540 that Currys list it as (but out of stock).
If you have the AM4 mounts for your heatsink, which that chip doesn't come with any hsf setup so you need one, then that leaves a reasonable budget for the motherboard.
My last work build used one of these, which has been pretty solid so far.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Prime-...dp/B07SW925DQ/
though I'm only using it with a 3700X, and specifically wanted three x16 slots for gpu, 25GbE card and SDI video in/out.
There are more "gamer" boards, including B550 boards, but for that money you can get X570 chipset which has has the mixed blessing of having been around for a bit longer.
Edit: Are you looking for ATX or uATX format?
Still a bit expensive, but with the code FNDDGAMING,you can get the Ryzen 7 5800X for £395 from Currys:

if you want to keep using your current cooler then corsair supply a bracket for it on AM4 https://www.corsair.com/eu/en/Catego...s/p/CW-8960046
So far I'm looking at the 5800x and the Asus Trix 570
5600x
What do you AMD users think.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Processor
ASUS ROG Strix X570-F Gaming ATX Motherboard
When i was planning my new rig I was originally going for a 5800X as I wanted to mirror the new consoles having an 8 core AMD CPU, however I ended up going for the 5600X. My reasons were quite specific though as I play at a 5120x1440 32:9 ultra wide resolution which is close to the demands of a 4K resolution. So the 5600X is overkill anyways but I shouldn't need to upgrade for another 5 years. Additionally the 5600X has excellent thermal performance and I've put mine in a tiny wee 8.3L sandwich style case. I found out from reviews that the 5800X ran hot comparatively to the others.
If you are on a set budget it is probably best to go with the 5600X and then spare the rest of the money for the GPU. In terms of your motherboard selection, I'd recommend only going with an x570 if you can make use of the additional features (as detailed here https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3...450-x470-zen-3). There are some solid B550 boards but some of the higher end ones start to get into x570 price territory.
I definitely think 5600X + a solid b550 board is a good bet.
OcUK have the Ryzen 7 5800X for £380. Personally I would not go under 8 cores if you intend to keep the system for a few years. Once the next generation consoles start gaining traction, expect more and more games to start pushing core usage and also the fact is AMD/Intel will push core number upwards too.
It largely depends on what would make you happy, and what you expect to upgrade in the future.
The upgrade I just did for my wife would most sensibly have been a 3600 on a B450 motherboard. So now she has a 5600X on a rather nice Asus Tuf B550M Gaming motherboard, because she uses the thing all the time and her last fx6350 board lasted nearly 6 years.
The motherboard you have chosen is a really nice one, but if you are just going to plug the minimum of components into it like most of us do, then things like the liquid nitrogen spec VRM and heatsink over the m.2 slot that can't be obscured by a GPU and hence doesn't need it seem a bit of a luxury. If you want to feel you have the best, then that's valid and enjoy a really nice board.
This one has the BIOS flashback feature which you may well need (the B550 board I just installed came with a pre 5000 series BIOS on it, I swapped in a 3600 before I realised it had a button on the back for exactly that scenario). It also has 2.5GbE which might be of interest and some sort of Thunderbolt header. All for £100 less.
£164 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...32-gen2-aplusc
But that's down to your personal value/quality preferences.
I got the Micro ATX B550M version for the wife which is even cheaper and feels like a really nice board. She winced at the RGB, but I notice she hasn't turned it off yet :D
B550 does bring the 5900X more into budget, if you can find one.
Edit: I was glad during the build of having a bag of these around:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PHGT5MV/
to hear the beeps. Asus are really behind on the whole diagnostics LED thing that others have.
If you can find it in stock the 5900x is the best. If mostly gaming, the 5600x is amazing value. The 5800x isnt great for price/performance. As far as motherboard goes B550 is your best best. If you wish to stick to ASUS, i would recommend the B550 Strix E. X570 is great, but only if you actually need all the benefits of the X570 platform over the B550. For MOST users, the B550 has everything you are ever going to need and the price bump to X570 is not worth it IMO.
