    Quiet Air Cooler for 5800x

My Lord, why is building a PC so much more difficult than it was 5-10 years ago.....

There is sooo much choice, so many reviews/opinions, prices yo-yo and personally money is more of a focus (the last point is obviously mine and mine alone!) Still it's bloody hard work to decide what to do and as a self diagnosed pondering procrastinator, I am starting to bore myself!! Having gone round in circles I'm at least pointed in the right direction at present and the one component I have already acquired is a 5800X, I already have a case that can take a 165mm air cooler and has lots of space and air flow, and next I want to order the cooler. I want to stick to air and I want the PC to be as close to silent as possible. I had earmarked the Noctua NH-U12A as I have read many good things about it and it fits in my case. Just before I spend 90 quid on it, is there anything else that anyone has experience with/can recommend?

The main issue with the Zen3 CPUs which use a single CCD,is the fact it's offset. Hence you need a CPU cooler which has a good contact area over the whole IHS.

That makes sense, is there an easy way to discern this from specifications?

I suppose if you can get some measurements of how big the contact plate area is?? Here are some dimensions for the AMD AM4 IHS in this thread:

Re: Quiet Air Cooler for 5800x

I'm a fan of heatsinks with a copper coldplate rather than direct touch heatpipes for zen CCDs - the extra copper helps shift the heat sideways to all the heatpipes.

I like the scythe fuma 2 - copper coldplate, dual tower design, performs well in reviews (albeit with slow quiet fans so not as good with fans set to max speed), and overclockers have them for £50
