So I work in a small office for a small company, and we could do with a new rack mount compute server.

Last one is something I built in a cheap rack mount case off Amazon which is horrible to work in, and uses a Ryzen 2600X (don't laugh, it was the latest thing at the time) with 96GB of ECC ram in an Asus motherboard. Not the best, but it was cheap and given I used to sit right next to the thing it is whisper quiet thanks to a 3U case with big slow fans.

The workload includes compiling FPGA chips which eats single thread performance, so the usual HP Microserver type machines don't cut it.

These days we are in a bigger office, but the servers are still in the same room as me and I really don't want something screaming like a banshee.

It feels like this shouldn't be so hard. Off the shelf kit seems expensive and LOUD.

Just been perusing some Silverstone cases, some interesting stuff there though nothing really jumps out.
