Spare Components.

How many of you guys carry spare components for your PC's.
I always have a spare PSU, Water cooler, GFX card and Motherboard. only ever had a PSU go on me so far. Problem I cannot imagine a couple of days without my PC

Besides a couple of spare PCs, I keep enough spares to build a replacement PC. Obviously, not to the same standard as my main rig - I don't have a spare i9 9900 or RTX3090 - but enough to get by.

PSU, graphics card and ram. Plus various watercooling odds & ends.

At least I don't feel so weird now. Thought it was just me.

Depends what you mean by 'carry'... :p

I carry a torch, Swiss Army™ knife, wallet, first aid kit, keys, and often a bunch of other little life-useful junk, which could probably fill a whole new thread... It's never occurred to me that I might need an emergency PC rebuild kit, although most of the times I'd need one I'm usually a stone's throw (or a short drive) away from someone who does have enough spares to at least let me access the internet and maybe even play a lightweight game or two.

I did have a very basic spare PC that was cobbled from leftover parts but, like with most of our leftovers, my friends and I often build starter-spec PCs for people we want to help out, and my spare recently went to someone.

I used too, not so much these days.

I think the biggest problem we have in London besides a curry's which I will not put my foot in there is no computer store anymore now that yoyotech has gone.. I'd love to live near a Scan or some store like that. Hence why I carry spare parts.

Every Saturday I had off I spent time there. My wife hated the place. The good thing if she wanted stuff for herself the deal we stopped there. I haven't got anymore lol

There haven't been computer shops anywhere since the 90s, have there?
I believe there is actually a computer fair round our way, but I understand it's mostly retro, vintage and collector pieces, with anything else priced at whatever the market will bear. Not exactly the treasure trove of bargains it once was...

The trick is to have kids, you can build a whole 2nd rig for them and the misses cant say anything :)

Also allows you to upgrade and hand me down much faster lol.

I used to have that excuse but he left the house and only uses apple and xbox.
