Defective Liquid Freezer II AIOs - Free Service Kit

A product defect has been identified by ARCTIC on the Liquid Freezer II AIO's and they're offering a free repair kit.

Affected products were on sale between May 2021 March 2022.

More info here and you can check your serial number:

In certain units, the gaskets were not sufficiently vulcanized causing a chemical reaction to occur between the copper cold plate and the gasket. This reaction may lead to sulfur residue and copper plate deposits. If this has happened, it can lead to a reduction in cooling performance and potential loss of cooling liquid.

    When can the problem occur?

The chemical reaction and degeneration of the gasket is a slow process and can occur within the 6-year warranty period. Thus, there is no reason to panic. We recommend that all affected coolers are serviced as soon as possible.

Replacement looks pretty straight forward. Though I do wonder how many do it in situ and spill liquid over their cpu

Yeah I think some steady hands & plenty of space and you'll be fine.
    Thankfully they include additional fluid.

Bizarrely I just pre ordered the Arctic Freezer II 360. There's none in stock so hopefully mine is QC stamped.
I was originally going for an EK AIO, but it's £90 more and I didn't see that I was getting £90 more even though it is marginally better

    When it arrives I'll update.

Stock has finally been shipped from Germany at the end of last week, however, some other delays mean possibly a week before I get this still. Being this delayed means I'll most certainly have the QC label...

Gotta hope all the other parts now work that have been sitting around

Re: Defective Liquid Freezer II AIOs - Free Service Kit

Received my Arctic Freezer II 360mm at long last having ordered on 24th August and it does have a QC label.
    It is revision 3.
Technically I would have received it on the 20th, however, I was at work and then away for the weekend so I delayed it until Tues.

The bad news is one of the fans are grinding on it's housing. God knows how that passed the QC
It's likely going to have to go back to Scan who have again run out of stock.

    I can't win

Well a bit of perseverance I simply loosened 2 of the pre-installed fan screws. So there must have been a bit of tension somewhere or over tightened at factory.

If it produces good temperatures as expected I'll keep it, don't fancy undoing 3 hours of faff to do it again. Although there would be less to do the second time round.

But yes next course of action will be a different brand sadly. Looking around it was the best bang for buck with excellent cooling.

Now to just fathom MSIs fan control.

I am currently using a Corsair 360mm thing and the software is ok but sometimes I have found just resets itself so end up having to do the fan curves again

Frustratingly I've had to re-install MSI Centre after every reboot, can't find a fix atm

Very happy with temps from the Liquid Freezer II thus far. 65c in Apex legends, I know not the most taxing game but it's a good starting figure for now.

Annoyingly the dodgy fan can still be heard during spin up and spin down. But currently not during gaming or idling.
I'll call Scan on Monday see what their thoughts are.

Re: Defective Liquid Freezer II AIOs - Free Service Kit

I've found a bug with MSI Center and reported it, I can finally use it without having to reinstall after every reboot.

If anyone else has the same problem with MSI Center 1.0.64.0 my cause was simply logging into my profile.
If you don't login then there's no issue with the app starting.

I took msi centre off, I couldn't get on with it. The latest version is better than old version in such that it only loads what you want rather than loading everything but now I use Corsairs software to control the lighting in the computer as have MSI going as well was causing issues

What motherboard do you have, can you control the system fans as well with Corsair?

Now that I have it working, I shouldn't need to use it much (hopes).

Yes I can control all the fans from the Corsair software. I have an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max II

Fan 1 is actually the 3 fans on the H150
Fan 2 is the 3 at the front of the case
Fan 3 is the rear fan

Re: Defective Liquid Freezer II AIOs - Free Service Kit

Cheers for the screenshots, that looks so much cleaner than MSI's I think I will use it!

Managed to get through to Scan who will aim to send a replacement fan. But that will probably take a month based on estimation of new stock arrival.
At least having loosened the screws slightly, its something I can live with temporarily.

Let us know how you get on with it. At least they are replacing the fan and you dont have to send the whole thing back
