Woohooooooooooooo!!!!!!! *looks speculatively at work rig*
Well, I'm going to be looking to take on an assistant, so I'm going to give them my current rig, I think - hell, it's a 2xMP2800 with a gig of RAM so it won't hurt them - and do some parts requisitioning, I think.
Wow intel just cant get a break at the moment can they! AMD are doing so well its great! If only they produced some dam adverts so the illiterates knew what AMD was!
What AMD need is some of the big pc makers using them more - Dell/IBM/HP etc. they can't quite seem to get into the big corporate market as intel "flexes it muscles" and scares off people who were contemplating switching to AMD, lets hope IBM use them in the new blades they're producing and they go well ...... fingers crossed, as that would give AMD a nice foothold in the corporate server market.

I actually think a lot of you are missing the bigger picture, Intel are still making heaps of money - jsut wait for the after netburst stuff remember - Intel have a lot of fabs...
Yeah, like maybe, the Green Man Group, or something...Originally Posted by Timmy!!!

Well....as a longtime fan of Ed's editorials at overclockers.com, I reckon the bigger picture is that both AMD and Intel will be screwed if they can't keep coming up with stuff that's newer, better and cheaper. Fabs keep getting costlier and costlier to build, and the gains from process shrinks keep getting smaller and smaller.Originally Posted by David
Anyway, on topic: Intel's 'after netburst' plan seems to be to go back to a tweaked P3 architecture. They've tweaked it extraodinarily well according to the benchmarks I've seen comparing Dothans to A64s clock for clock, but they have no 64-bit capability in that core. If 64-bit Windows is good, Intel don't really have a chip that'll take advantage of it as far as I can see.
The real question is:
Is a dual core processor to a single what 2 knobs is to 1 for an "active" dog?

Tyan K8WE + 8G DDR400 ECC+REG + Dual Dual Core Opteron + Dual 6800GT + SATAII-300 Hardware RAID card + 8x T7K250 RAID5 + 4x 2405FPW?
That will be the ultimate folding/gaming/web server All-in-one platform LOL.
