    Getting old athlon xp's.

    Hi guys.

I am trying to complete a file server, i just need a CPU and hard drive.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any online shops that are still selling low clock athlon xp's. i.e. 1500/1600/1700. An xp1600-m would be ideal.

I dont want to spend a lot of money, just like £20/30. rather than forking out for a xp2500-m that will never get used to its full potential.

Or can i only get them second hand now-a-days?

    Thanks
    Will.

Can't find any online shops selling but e-bay has one that's advertised as brand new - Xp1800 currently at £21.59

Don't know if that's any good to you.

I dont think you can buy processors like that since they were replaced with semprons. This shows processors ascending in price. It wont show you all thats available aross the web, but its a good list.

Id recommend something like a 1.8ghz Duron for £28.19 or the sempron 2200+ for £32.31. It all depends on what your motherboard will support and how much you can stretch to but any processors at that kind of level are decent and great value for money.

If you want new go for the sempron (its basically the old t'bred anyway).

Personally though I'd shop around forums for one cheap 2nd hand.

Looking @ your sig though I'd invest in a mobile barton to replace the xp1700 t'bred and use that in the fileserver

If you're lucky you can pick up a 2nd hand Barton for £40-45, about £20 more than the t'bred - don't forget though you'll get back virtually what u paid for the barton in a couple of months when u sell it/upgrade to A64 .....

I upgrade my pc with 2nd hand stuff all the time, then sell it a few months down the road for virtually the same as what I paid - sometimes more
The 3.2 p4 in my sig I bought 2nd hand for £111 last August and have just sold it this week for £110 .........
