In need of a new rodent...

...My Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer optical rodent has finally given up the ghost, after 6 years of hammered service..

So, what should I get to replace it? It's got to be optical, but NOT wireless.
It must have programmable thumb buttons, and a decent wheelie..

I've been looking at the new MS Intellimouse Explorers, and the Razor gaming mice, but what does everyone think?

    Thanks in advance,
    S.

Razers - you either love em or hate em, I'm not a fan, but thats a personal thing, nothing to do witht he mouse.

Logitech MX series gets my vote - I've been using my mx500 for 18 months now and still love it - theres new versions of it out now that are supposed to be better, but don't see any need to upgrade my mx500 for now.

Yup, I was just looking at the 518 on the website... Aren't those thumb buttons a bit small? I use the far thumb for 'use/action' and the near thumb for 'reload', and I'm worried that my fat clumbsy fingers won't find them in a heated hurry...

    Keep it coming, ta,

Yeah, they're fine. I usually have the near thumb one for reload as well, and the far thumd for melee attack.

Sweet.. Just ordered a Logitech 518..

Unfortunately, I have to try and play HL2DM and CS:S with this dodgy non-optical, non-wheelie, basic button heap of backup rodent until it gets here next week.. Hmmmmph... Harsh.

    Thanx for the advice guys,

EDIT: And grabbed an IceMat Pro original at the same time..
