Water Cooling Components

I was thinking of investing in a full water cooling setup for my Socket A based Beast, but as i never used to have enougth money to buy any items of water cooling i am not familiar with the terms, and the parts for water cooling.

And so i was wondering if anyone could list the items i'll need for a full water cooling setup.

For a basic setup just cooling the CPU, you will want:

A Waterblock for Sckt A systems (this is the bit that sits ontop of the CPU)
Water pump (you can get specialist computer water pumps or pond/aquarium pumps)
Radiator (again you can get a specialist computer watercooling radiator or a heatercore from a car)
A fan for the said radiator

you'll also want some hose clips, something to break the water surface tension e.g anti freeze, maybe something to prevent kill algae)

Nova Heater Core £25 online of about £10 from an autospares store
Eheim 1048/DangerDen 12V-D4 Pump £35-50

about £30 more to get 1/2" tubing, hoseclips and a fan to fit the heatercore, etc..

YOu also have the choice of using (buying or making) a resevoir or just using a T-line to fill/bleed the system.

Only problem with that kit is he needs to mod on the correct size inlet/ outlet and buy/ make a shroud on the heatercore etc. If you're wanting something that requires no modification to the components, you can't go wrong with this type of setup, trust me when i say it's better to go the extra mile in terms of quality:

Setting it up is pretty self-explanitory, cut the hose to size and keep the cuts straight, those clippers to prune rose bushes work really well. Remove your components and leak test for ~24 hours after filling the system with de-ionised water and a coolant such as Water Wetter/ Zerex. Once all is good pop the components back in and make sure everything is ok and you've got yourself a high-end kit. You're looking ~30°C load for your average 2500 Mobile

What Inlet/outlet needs modding? everything will be 1/2" inluding the heatercore, I am yet to come accross one with smaller or larger out/inlets than 1/2"

A heatercore will cool better than a standard 120.1 computer radiator, but i'll agree something like a BIX will be simpler. Although its still likely he'll be making his own shroud unless he wants to pay for one.

I would go for the swiftech block or the DD LRWW over the maze4. good call on the panflow fan though. If you don't go for this fan make sure whatever fan you do get is 38mm thick rather than 25mm. The 38mm create more static pressure.

Have you seen any reported improvement in temps using WaterWetter over standard Auto antifreeze?

For that kind of money you could almost get a zalman reserator which is nearly completely silent and a lot easier to set up. Won't give you the uberperformance of the custom rig it has to be admitted.

Will cool everything (except your HDD); you might have a bit of a struggle with the graphics card one though. But all sealed and non-conductive (see CPC issue 19)

A BIX can be ordered with 1/2" or 3/8" fittings.
The Maze4 CPU block can be ordered here for £33.99. To help with costs it might pay you to get over to Bit-Tech Forums, sign up and post 75 non-spammy posts and then you'll be able to view the For Sale Forums. Post yourself a wanted and i can almost guarantee you'll find most of that kit, i got my Maze4 from there for £20 and it had only been leak tested

can i suggest the zalman cpu block as at performs well and, most importantly, is compatable with sock A, 754, 939, pent 4 AND comes with 1/2 and 3/8 fittings. Saves you the cost of a new waterblock when you upgrade ur rig.

what do you mean nealry silent??? it is silent - apart from the tapping of the water flow indicator.

best cooling purchase ive made. its great for ppl who want to test the water in the water cooling area

if i was to tell you that my old thermaltake volcano 11 cooled my athlon 2000+ at 50 deg idle / 60 load and the reserator is cooling my P4 2.8GHz at 30 deg idle, 33 load, would you read anything into it?
