    Burn in

I've just got a new cpu (a rare occasion for me as i usually buy 2nd hand) and I was wondering how long people usually run "burn in" a new cpu before overclocking it, and giving it a few volts

Its a 3.0 e0 Prescott by the way

Personally i didnt bother because i couldnt wait to see how far i could push it. Maybe i should have. Anyway, i have a 3.0 e0 prescott too but still only with stock cooling due to low funds, broken ram etc. Will you be watercooling yours? Id love to see how far itd go with water but itll be a few months before i can afford that.

Oh yeah, mine runs at about 3.75ghz but i cant push it further because after voltmodding my motherboard the temperatures are too high to put the voltage up.

    Well, I'm starting gently and its currently @ 250mhz fsb (3.75Ghz) @ 1.35v - basically stock voltage.

I'm not planning on increasing voltage for a day at least, but its been running 2 instances of folding since it was installed (about 2hrs ago) which stresses it quite a bit, not as much as prime, but close

Its in my watercooled rig in my sig - so am hoping for 4Ghz+, fingers crossed

I don't subscribe to the burn in theory at all, whats far more important is patience and not overdoing it [which i have none of when overclocking a new cpu]

find it's max, then back it down a notch or 2 for stability and longevity

    Current voltage is about 1.45v

I had a quick try with 1.6v to get 280 stable, but no joy, so I dropped the voltage back down and will try again in a few days see if I get any better results after its "burnt in"

burn in does nothing for cpu's. Works with certain types of memory.
