    Replacing HDD Controller Board.....

Mate of mine has a 20gig HDD that blew a chip on the controller board. Whats the chances of being able to replace the board with one from a same-model HDD that has say, bad sectors and being able to get it working again?

Its a Western Digital and the model number is WD200EB-11CPF0.

I've done this before (a few years ago) with an IBM and it worked fine.

Unless theres some valuable data on the hdd its not really worth the hassle trying to find the exact model drive secondhand then switching the boards over.

Probly true, just was wondering, since its an old(er) HDD someone might have one kicking around with bad sectors or the like, but a working controller board.
