Counter strike lagg even though has broadband on dimension 3000.

My friend is playing counter strike source but always gets lag. He has broadband on wireless but we think it's the intel 'extreme' graphics lagginh him. The dell doesn't have a agp slot, so if he bought this pci 9250:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=86640

would he be able to play at 640x400 or whatever and get less lagg. ALso his ping is always over a hundred and he walks slower than everybody else, so is it the graphics card. He plays it on the lowest settings possibel anyays, would the pci cardhelp the prob. Thanks, john.

He could swap out the motherboard like I did and then put in a decent graphics card. Details can be found on this thread....http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/cont...pic/37057/?o=0

Thats's out of the question i think, he doesn't mind playing at lowest res as long as he gets rid of the lagg, doesn't have much money, will the card solve the probs at all lowest settings?

the lag may well be caused by other things (e.g. if he uses Internet Explorer, he's probably got spyware & viruses filling his connection & slowing things down)

CS technically needs a Pentium 133, 24Mb RAM, and a 2D graphics card. it uses the Quake 1 engine, which is 10 years old. it's unlikely to be a gfx card issue, if he's on a modern pc

He need to choose other servers that is less lag. There should be some option to show current FPS. I used to play Wolfenstein ET and I realize its the connection which is lag rather than my graphic cards (It looked like it is 5fps but actually the card is pumping out 70fps) And the ping is like 450ms.

Also check if he is playing too large of a game. UK's ADSL connections can't handle 16+ players without serious lagging due to slow upload.

It it counter strike 'Source' so it uses the half-life 2 engine so needs a quite high spec pc. He plays on the same server as me and i get none of the problems that he gets, but i have a much better graphics card. I will tell him to try and remove spyware and then stop other stuff running, but he says that he closes msn and stuff like that down as well before anyways. What I find strange that i would thoght couldn't be connection related, is the fact that he runs pretty much half the speed as everybody else and that his ping goes down and his lag dissapears in indoor places. That's why I thought i would be the graphics, that pci card must be way better than intel extreme at 640x400. John.

onboard graphics is great for the odd email, ebaying, typing on hexus forums and general use like that but as soon as you load up a game their 3D capabilities are virtually none existant.

So you would say that buying the 9250 would help a lot?

What about insatlling a pci card in the dell 3000, is it the same as agp, and do you have to change stuff in the bios?

it would work, per se, but it would gain very little. PCI is simply not fast enough for modern graphics cards, and the 9250 is not much faster than the onboard intel extreme on i9x5

Surely at the lowest settings available, the pci card would stop the lagg because it can deal with 3d, whereas the onboard cannot, shouldn't that get rid of the lag.

the onboard graphics can do 3d.

actually, looking into it further, the dimension 3000 has intel extreme 2, which isn't massively fast.

you're right, a PCI card _WOULD_ speed it up, but it would still be far from enjoyable on any recent game

    best comparison i can find

green is pretty much what your friend has, purple is what the pci card you're looking at would get. both are off the bottom of the graph compared to any modern agp or pcie card

I have run CSS on a duron 1200 with a Leadtek 64mb geforce4mx440 with only AGP4x (lmao)... and it ran fine.i did also oc' it to gain greater preformance, but even at standard it ran it But then I was playing Bots only So many it would get raped online
So you could like others say get a new mobo... get a recondictioned one from www.overclockers.co.uk and go to their B-Grade section...
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/B_Grade.html
and pick up something for nothing well a very little lol
and then get a 9500np from their if they have one. if not a 9700pro or 9600pro/xt would do fine
    hope this helps
