Finally got some RAM, TCCD no less...
Aftr my basic twinmos dual channel 512mb kit failed on me i have been desperately trying to get hold of some decent replacement ram. I had been patiently waiting for this ram to come into stock as its the cheapest TCCD i could find. But i got bored so i bought some corsair TCCD ram from overclockers for about £150 inc. postage. Its a lot for ram, but just at the highest end of my budget. This is the spec:
Corsair TWINX1024-4400C25PT
2x512mb
ddr 550 @ 2.5 4 4 8
ddr 400 @ 2.0 2 2 5
Now my 3.0 prescott can clock pretty high (3.75ghz+) but the stock cooling cant cope. So until i get better cooling i have back it down to a conservative 3.51ghz with a fsb of 234mhz.
First i put this ram in running at stock timings at 234. Then i tightened the timings to the tightest i could stably; 2 3 3 5. I got the following super pi results:
Ram:-------Ram speed:-------Latencies:-------Super pi time:
Twinmos----195--------------2.5 4 4 8---------41
Corsair------234--------------2.5 4 4 8---------38
Corsair------234--------------2.0 3 3 5---------37
My results as they are arent very impressive as half this pc is still junk, but its the difference that important. This is an almost 10% increase in performance. I cant be bothered to test it properly with other programs, all i know is that its faster. The extra 512mb makes a huge difference to everyday running. I hope the performance increase of this ram will be even more noticeable when i get round to putting the fsb back up. Ill keep you posted.
