    Looking for a new fan....

....to replace one in a dell. I need one that is 92x92x32 so i think its an odd size and need one with 3 wires (Ground, live and rpm sensor)

Want something with similar/better specs than these (Current fan):

Specifications: 92x92x32mm, 25.0 CFM @ 1400 RPM, 17 dB, 1.25w .68 Startup Amperage, 12v DC, 3 pin connector with rpm output. Specifications listed are constant from 0 to 25°C. Also known as Dell part # 7J639. Cable length is approximately 7.5 inches.

Maximum Output Specifications: When temperature is 55°C, specifications are 69.91 CFM @ 3800 RPM, 43.5 dB, 5.64w.

    Any ideas?
    Ben

ordinaraly for 92mm fans i would recommend the silenx 14dba, but here i'm not so sure. why does it have to be 32mm deep? i have only ever seen after-market fans at 25mm and 38mm. have you tried getting a replacement from dell?

Its to do with the way dell fans mount. The fan doesnt mount to the case, theres a plastic 'hood' coming from the back of the case which goes over the cpu fan. The fan clips into the hood and is held in by some bits of plastic which clip over the top. This means that the depth has to be right or smaller with some padding if its possible.

I looked at the silentX ones as i have a PSU of theirs and know its quiet but they dont seem to shift much air and they're 25mm deep

how about the luxotop 92mm here you can just plug it in to the motherboard header and run it at full if you want.

i would consider this padded out. i dont think you need 69cfm outputs really. but if you really want a 32mm fan, then i think you'll have to get in touch with dell. if noise isnt an issue, then there are lots of higher output 92mm fans out there.

Thanks, i've seen the fan i currently have on the web which is only about $5. I cant see its very good at that price and its in the US. The reason for replacing is that in the last month or 2 it suddenly got louder. Just 1 day i came down in the morning nad it was louder. Guessing its the ball bearings or whatever it uses?

I'll have to take a look at the mount tomorrow and see how easy it is to put a thinner fan in there.

If so i guess its just finding any old 92mm fan and throwing it in although i think some wire switching in the plug is needed.

How would i go about swapping the plug from my old fan to a new one?
