Are they worth the money?

Just looked at a 92mm one and its £20 which seems a little too much! It does have quite impressive specs though:

Papst are known to make quality fans and have been in the business for donkeys years. Im sure most people on this forum would say they are greta, but far too expensive and would readily suggest panaflos and cheaper alternative.

However, if its raw silence your after then nexus is the way to to, and for performance you want a delta - why make a balanced decision when you can take things to the extereme

lol, im looking at a replacment for the one in my dell which has 1 fan in the whole system (Plus my after market ATI1). That means i need decent CFM but still quiet

Is there anywhere selling the papst for cheaper?

papst a few years back were some of the best fans and people paid for the better quality/sound, but now theres plenty of competitors and alot of fans on the market that perform as well if not better for cheaper.

I've got a 120mm papst fan and it's dead quiet. I only paid £15 and that was an import from Germany!

Panaflo fans are just about as good but tend to be more variable in their quality. Dorothy Bradbury is the cheapest place by far if you only want 1 or 2.

papst were always regarded as the best for quiet fans, but theres more competition nowadays, and silenX are quieter and panflo cheaper, but slightly noisier - persoanlly I go for panaflo and if noise is an issue - 7v them

Still love the papast 8412 NGMLV's I've got in my case (10-19dba 16-26cfm thermistor controlled)

Cheers, i would get a silentx from kustom because ive got one of their PSUs and have bought from kustom before. That company has the BEST CS! Only problem is that they're out of stock.

So if papst aren't worth spending the extra money on, silentX are out of stock and panflo have variable quality is the next best thing the noiseblocker i linked to? Also available from whisper tec with variable speed for £11.50 + VAT

Very true, I have one very quiet 12V Panaflo, and another which is very noisy (same model, though.) At 7V it's a lot better though.

IF you look even cheaper (for 80mm models at least) the YS Tech ones are quiet at 12V and silent at 7V.

I've also seen some Zalman 'silent' fans which have impressive specs at OCUK.

FWIW the ebuyer standard 92mm fans are pretty quiet, and would be basically silent with reduced voltage. They have the great advantage that you can buy about 20 of them for the price of one Papst.

No, it's not a typo, SilenX just outright lie...

No fan can achieve 14 dBA at 12V, probably not even near stall speed and they cost just as much as papsts. Also, some SilenX fans have a bad habit of ticking when reduced to around 800RPM (120mm version in particular).
