Buying new laptop need advice on GPU

    hi peeps,

upgrading my laptop soon and after looking around I found a few that I think are quite reasonable but stuck on the choice of GPU. My budget is around £800, I picked out a number of Acer laptops which I am considering.

All of them seem to run 2x256 DDR333, here is the rest of the setups,

    1682WLMi Centrino 1.6ghz 400fsb / ati 9700 64mb upto 2hrs battery life
    4101WLMi Centrino 1.6ghz 400fsb / x600 64mb upto 4 hrs
    1672WLMi P4 3ghz 800fsb / ati 9700 64mb upto 1hr
    1524WLMi AMD64 3400 800fsb / Nvidia Go5700 64mb upto 2hrs

so whats gonna give me best fps outter these, if battery life isn't an issue which one would you go for. This is more like a desktop replacement rather than a mobile pc. The battle should be between the P4 and AMD64 systems right?

If anyone has seen any gr8 bargains which are within my price limit plz let me know.

    cheers,

    Ady

The centrino with Radeon 9700 will probably give you highest FPS. You can also overclock it via clockgen if the board uses a compatible clockgen chip. If you can, get a 1.8ghz or 2Ghz model and that would help FPS a lot.

At stock the P4 will probably edge the 1.6GHz Pentium M; however P4 based laptops are hot and noisy and I really wouldn't recommend them. If the Centrino laptop is a similar price I would definitely get that.

Exactly, the P4 laptop will probably overheat, corrupting your HD and slowly damaging other components.

thanx for the advice peeps, I probably end up either getting the centrino or amd64 over the p4 with its heat issues and 1 hr battery life. Both the centrino and amd64 running @ stock speeds has more than enough power to play CS nicely so no worries there.

The main uses is just uni work, surfing, music, anime, and odd bit of gaming, nothing it shouldn't be able to handle.

Rave-yeah all the specs listed above only have a price margain of like £70, all have 60gb hd, 15.4 widescreen tft, dvd-rw..everything I would need. Laptops really have come down in price bigtime, bout time I got rid of this IBM T20 hehe.

I have a centrino laptop (acer travelmate 8000)

It has 2ghz pentium m and 9700 128mb and a gig of ram. Performance is great. Plays all the latest games at good frame rates
