OC: Asus A8V with an AMD 64 3000+

Hi,

I've recently upgraded my system to an AMD 64bit system, i was stuck on an amd 2000 for about 4 years i *think*

I decided to go for the AMD 3000+ as i've seen reviews that it can be overclocked to the equiv of a 3700+ and can still beat most p4's @ 3.0ghz

My hardware is as follows:

Asus A8V Deluxe Socket-939 VIA/KT800Pro - ATX Sound IEEE1394 USB2 800FSB
AMD (Winchester) Athlon 64bit 3000+ 939pin 512kb L2cache 90nm
and 2 * 512 of Crucial DDR 400MHz PC3200

I'm trying to find out what the best settings are to get my system to a 2.4ghz system and stable, any help would be appreciated as i am not experianced in overclocking.

1. Go into BIOS.
2. Up the reference clock (aka CPU clock, FSB) to 267.
* you may also want to increase cpu voltage by .05 to .1v
3. Lower HTT (aka LDT) multiplier to 3x or 600Mhz.
4. Drop memory ratio to DDR333 (166MHz, 5:4).
5. Increase memory voltage to 2.8v
6. Save and exit.
7. Test for stability.

If you specify the exact model/core of your CPU and memory it will be helpful.

You'll want to download the various suite of standard stability testing tools - Prime95, SuperPi, 3dmark, memtest+ (all available via google).

Are you using a rev 2.0 board? Oh, and a 3000+ at 2.4GHz is faster than most P4s at 4.0GHz. :devilish:
