Will more RAM be better than higher fsb and dual channel

    Hi.

I have 2x256mb pc2700 running at 180fsb in my system. But i want some more, and being the cheap cheeky git i dont want to fork out to buy some, even though it is obscenely cheap.

So; i am going to steal 256mb of my brothers. However, this will mean i dont use the dual channel on my NF7-S (v2.0), and may have to lower the fsb to 166 (as im not sure if it will take a higher fsb.)

    Is 768mb @ 166 2.5-3-3-11, better than 512mb dual channel @ 180 2.5-3-3-11?

    Thanks very much
    Will

More memory will always make a difference over FSB speeds. You would be better to just spend the £50 and get a whole gig and sell on your PC2700 for prob about £15.

thanks for the reply, i chucked another stick in and it made a huge difference in bf:v, no jerkyness at the start. And it is at 180fsb as well

It really depnds on how mcuh memory you have now.

With 512 megs, moving to 768 will probbaly be worth it.

If you had a gig ore more and wanted to add 512 megs at drop in memory speed, it wouldn't be worth it in most cases.

It will work in dual chan (perhaps not as big as gain as using 2 sticks of the same size, but its not going to be noticeable in the real world). This has been explained many times. Search for it.

Ya, more ram will help. The FSB of the mobo is the bottleneck anyways.
