Confused on PSU for new pc?

Just started to build my PC.I have run into a small problem. My 300 watt PSU only has the 20 pin connector. Do I need the 4-pin molex too? Some have said I need both plugged in to work. Any help here? My spec's below:
    Intel P-4 530J
    ESC PT800CE-A motherboard
    2 x 512 mb Geil pc3200 ram sticks
Xtasy 9600 256 mb video card
    Maxtor 20 gb hard drive
    Creative 52x cdrom
My problem starts with no video screen(POST) message. I get "Please check signal" when I turn it on. I've switched out video boards that work, still nothing.
I've pulled the battery to do the bios thing, nothing. I get power to the Processor cooling fan and my HD light, on the bottom of the unit come on. Power switches work but no visual disply. Any help would be appreciated.

It may be a problem with the 20pin/24pin power or it may just be you psu is not good enough. What brand is the PSU or is it generic? I would recomend a Tagan.

It's an Xtreme ps-300. About 7 months old. I had it running a P-3 on a Tyan board before. Didn't have any problems with it. If I need to buy a new one (400 watt or better)
does it need the 20 pin and 4 pin molex connectors? I have two seperate molex connectors on the motherboard 1-20 pin and 1-4-pin.

Dont like the sound of that, can you weigh it and tell us how heavy it is, im just trying to work out if its good quality or not. If it is not vey good it may have given up the ghost, ie it may be broke.

It's about 2 1/2 lbs. I only have a non-digital bathroom scale(helps me, not what I'm weighing for shipping). Sorry about not converting I'm a yank.

I just read up on the Tagan via their web page. I ask around here if they are available. I like the looks and ample amount of connectors. Most of your related threads on PSU come in with good recommendations on this product. Hope it's available in the States. Thanks for your help and I'll keep coming back for your sites knowledge in your post's.
    Thanks again.

If it is a standard 300w PSU and weighs under 3lbs it is likely to be poorly made. Can you test the psu on another system?
