Well depends on platform pretty much drives your views...
AMD don't do DDR2 yet so I have no idea really on it. The only thing is that the latencies are crap tbh and no where near as good as DDR.
Its not the huge jump in technology like people had hoped
lower power consumption though
To be honest taking in consideration the cost difference, i think the user is better off buying more DDR ram. In other words 2gb DDR vs 1 gb DDR2, i sure the performance wont differ too much with that setup?
just got a DDR2 board, buying some DDR2 today, will let you know if I notice anything major, but tbh, I dont expect that much of a difference...

It's higher latency but higher bandwidth I think. How much impact that has depends on the program being run and the architecture of the system.

My Dual Xeon server has DDR2 and, I have a sneaky suspicion, performs better for it ;)
Not worth the extra money, no way. Nor is intel lol
DDR2 is making a come back. They're much cheaper now, and relatively competitively priced against DDR1. The newer OCZ Enhanced bandwidth series looks very promising since it's got relatively tight 3-2-2 and 4-2-2 timings @ PC4200 and PC5400. Those are just the rated timings, I'm pretty sure they'll do 3-2-2 @ PC5400 at least if you push some more voltage through them.
These modules would own any DDR1 stick. Even TCCD.
It's a shame that AMD is so slow to adopt DDR2 :(
they really prob wont, they will just go for DDR3 or equivelent
Ya I read that article too, but I don't really believe it. There's too much of a gap between now and when DDR3 prices will drop down to affordable levels. Sure, they will start shipping DDR3 sometime 2006, but it'll take at least a year before prices drop.Quote:

There's no real need for AMD to go for DDR2 yet... however by the time Socket M2 appears - that will be a different story - and memory prices will probably be more in line with DDR "1" by then... (so long as there's not a massive price rise of course!) :)
I agree, theres no urgent NEED for AMD to go DDR2 yet, but it would be nice if they did. They won't have to force people to switch to DDR2, merely give the consumer an option. All the enthusiasts will jump onto it with current prices of DDR2 being so low and relatively tight 3-2-2 timings.Quote:
