Not To Sure What To Buy....

Hey, iv not really been paying attention to the computer world for the last couple of months but iv desided i need an upgrade.

I noticed that the new Venice chips are comming out and was wondering what mobo and CPU would be the best combination for overclocking.

I was thinking of a 3000+ or 3200+ venice due to the Winchesters are good O/Cers (got watercooling so temps shouldnt be a prob) and quite cheap to buy, but Im not sure as there not the same core.

Also what would be the best mobo for overclocking that is also agp (my x800xtpe is agp and i dont wanna get rid of that )

    Cheers

DFi are the best around for OC, but you can get a new nforce4 chipset

Yeh i noticed the DFI were NF4 only

I was thinking of the Abit AV8 as its about £25 cheaper than the MSI KN8 Neo, but is the MSI board worth the extra £25 ?

Also if i were to get a Venice, would i need to flash the bios of the mobo ? (Current mobo is Soc A so i got no idea how i would)

    cheers

Venice or San diego (venice with 1MB L2 cache) + DFI NF4 Ultra or SLI board + 6800GT PCIe.

Why? If you don't wanna go SLI right now, you can stick with 1 card. Then when prices drop later on, you can upgrade to SLI for cheap.

You could sell it (Theres a for sale forum here) and get a pci-e one? It's going to cost you a little bit but could be worth it in the long run

Depends on your budget I suppose. If you wanna keep the card, then the MSI Neo2 is basically the only option for S939 + AGP. If you want to eventually go SLI, you'll need a DFI NF4.

    *Sigh*

Im not selling my g-card to then buy a new card that will cost more money and be slower than the one i have.....thats plain stupid (I dont even like nvidia cards anyway)

Also there are plenty of AGP 939 mobos. Abit, MSI & Asus to name a few good companies.

All i really wanna know is if i get a Venice chip will i have to flash the bios on the motherboard ?
If so, how would i go about doing so without another 939 cpu ?

Just a quick note, in those few months you've been away from the PC world the ATI/Nvidia thing may have changed a lot. Nvidia are now on par if not better than ATI

Actually you can't if you want S939. They are NF4 only.

Yes you will likely need a BIOS update to make the Venice and San Diego run properly. I'd go the MSI NF4 route.
