    Question Thoroughbred or Barton

Is there any difference between the Thoroughbred XP2600 333FSB and a Barton XP2500 apart from the cache? I am looking at changing my Thoroughbred XP2000 (266 fsb) for either of those chips. My current CPU tends to run a little to hot for my liking, and I want a CPU that runs cooler. I dont intend to overclock.

The Barton XP2500 when run at default settings is on par power wise with XP2400+. The XP2600+ out preforms the XP2500+.

I know you said you are not interested in OCing but if you were to get a XP1700+ and leave it at the 1.5v default core voltage you will still be able to OC it to 2ghz and it will be cooler than you current XP2000+

Just out of interest what are your temps at the moment and what is your cooling setup?

I am a fan of the Bartons atm, very cheap for a helluva performer, they seem to o/c quite well too, i know a mate has got one to over 200FSB

Most of the XP2500+'s will get to 200FSB.

Ah the 1700+ may be a good clocker but I am more of a cache man myself, i'd prefer extra cache over extra mhz anyday (even though we all know athlon use PROPER mhz not those wussy intel mhz )

in real time theres no real notable diffrence between the 2400/2500/2600
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

An extra 256k of cache is about the same as 100Mhz or so.

My XP2000 seems to be running very hot all the time, usually about 60 deg C, thats with 2 x 80mm intake fans, 2 x 80mm fans extracting and a CAK38-2 cooler with an 80mm fan ontop and have the smallest ammount of Artic Silver II. My case temp is 30 deg C. I know the processor is within its limits, but some times when I turn my machine off after its been on for a good while, I have to wait for the thing to cool down or it wont start. I just get a temp alarm. Thats why I am thinking of going over to a Barton 2500 if they run cooler. I thought that they were on a different die and ran with a smaller voltage. I'm not really up with the newer processors. and dont want nto overclcock. My board is a Epox 8RDA+ and uses the NF2 chipset.

BTW. I have my Temp set to alrm at 70 deg C and the machine to shut down at 75 in the bios.

£80 difference? what are we talking now? AFAIK the Barton isn't that expensive! (I am talking about a 2500+) it's only about £70...

I have my brothers Barton 2500 (that he bought a couple of weeks ago) this week. I'll post some results of how it clocks after I get round to updating my NF7s bios. Currently typing this on it running at 2.0Ghz. Dont want to clock it higher yet due to the old mobo locking problem - though did that only affect rev 1's?

I've decided to swap him my NF7s for his 233a board so he can run the chip. Will mean I cant keep up with Moby in UD next week

As I dont really want to overclock which one do you think will run the coolest, the XP2600 or the Barton 2500?
