You may have read my experiences with Tekheads in this thread, buying an Adata 1GB dual channel kit. I finally received the right RAM today and Googled the code on the chips: ADD8608A8A-5B. I got ambiguous information that I may have relabelled BH5 chips. Could this be true? How can I really tell (not had a chance to install it yet). If it is true, how should I go about achieving a maximum FSB overclock (raising voltage etc)?
BH-5 needs alot of voltage to do its best.
If it is BH-5 it will do 2-2-2 right out of the box at DDR400 and with about 3 volts should get innot the 230s-240s with the same timings, though more votlage is better if you can keep the memory cool.
Your motherboard/CPU will be the limiting factor if it is BH-5.
It's not all about the chips. The PCB matters a lot too, and brainpower PCBs are the best.
Yes, PCB is a significant factor as well.
Though I'm not convinced Brainpower is the best in all cases.
I have the RAM now. It defaulted to 2.5-3-3-8. Might try playing with it tomorrow. Is there any utility that will interrogate the chips to find out if they are really BH5s?
No, there is nothing on the actual memory chips to read or "interogate". The SPD is all that can be read and that can be programed with whatever the manufacturer likes.
If the chips have been relabled then the only way to know for sure is trial and error.

If so they are almsot certainly some kind of winbond chip, but not necissarily BH-5.
The other thing is I'v always seen with BH-5 is that they will not run with a Cas Latency set to 3, only 2 or 2.5.

Oralpain, I don't think they have those depressions. They were such a pain to fit in my tiny case I'm reluctant to have another look :) I'm going to try raising the speed in small amounts over time, I put it up by just 5 MHz last night, seems fine so far. For some reason though, Aida32 now reports them running at 2.5-4-4-9.
Is it on SPD timings? as that will adjust the timings automatically to keep them at what the RAM thinks it shold be running at.
Go to expert mode (whatever manually changing is) and set them to 2.5-3-3-8. Unless you are running an nf2 board, in which case it is 2.5-3-3-11 for some reason that runs faster....:S
No point in rasing it by small amounts over time. Rasie it till memtest craps out then bring it down a few MHz at a time till it seems stable, then do some serious stability testing to be sure.
blockers, it was on AUTO last time I checked. I am running an nForce2 board, so I'll try thos timings. Can't do too much at the mo, as I'm preparing for a PGCE interview tomorrow.
Just tried to go to 210MHz at 2.5-4-4-11 and got a blue stop error just after the windows logo.
HL2 Deathmatch was also crashing to desktop after a couple of minutes at 205MHz. Looks like I've not got the bargain I thought :(
