PSU Reccomedation

Building a friend a new PC



And I was after a PSU recommedation, as you can see, its gonnaa be fairly silent, so PSU should reflect this also please, and should have enough power behind it to power 2 more HDs in the future, sat nav, mp3 player, simultaneous usage of both optical drives and other USB devices.

Most importantly:

PLEASE NOTE : This motherboard requires a 24 pin ATX power connection.

Also, if any other problems appear blatantly obvious, please advise

Looking at scans site, I see there are two 480w:

Tagan Whisper Quiet is v-good. Had mine for some time now. Stable & quiet, but be aware they can get 'kin hot.

Cooler-wise, you might want to considder the Thermalright XP 120. IF it's compatible with your mobo. Best damned heatsink I've used in years.

However, Scan doesnt stock it, Overclockers has it on offer, but after my experience with AMTRAK in December with Savastore, Im avoiding them like the plague

The fan ThermalRight recommends is a bit noisy too Nice airflow though!

So, for instance, that Akasa 120mm fan I intend installing as a case fan, would another of those work on the thermalright xp-120?

The Akasa was nice, like 18db so that'll be hardly inaudible, the guy is like 45, he cant hear me whistle at him so I doubt that will bother him

OCZ = best quality, adjustability and 5year warranty. PC Power and cooling would be next, they're built like tanks but you'll have to mod it for voltage adjustments. Tagen makes OCZ PSUs, so that would be 3rd, only if you can find a nice 600watt model tho.

I used one of these casefans the other day and I've fallen in love with it. *counts* That means i'll use one as front intake, one as exhaust, and possibly another on the CPU However the ThermalRight XP-120 + fan appears to be pretty expensive, I'll see what he says.

Ok, spoke to the guy, he said he'd much prefer less noise over less cost, so I've gone for the ThermalRight. However, I just noticed the SilenX 120mm fans produce 11dB (another, spins faster, emits 14dB), for a bit more money.

Is there an audible difference between 11dB,14dB and 18dB?
