If the sata controller is not part of the mobo chipset then you will need drivers on a floppy.
Copy them to the floppy (make sure they're not in a folder just on the disk) and when installing press f6 when it prompts during the setup. after a short while it come to a screen where you can point it at the drivers and proceed.
It's a good idea to have a disk on standby anyway even if the sata is part of the mobo chipset as people have sometimes been having problems.
It's situations like this which make me keep a floppy still in this day and age.
theres a floppy that came with my mobo (dfi nf4 ultra d).
sata raid driver disk
nvidia nf4
silicon image 3114
rev.1.0
will that be the one to use?
Yep
If I just bought a SATA drive as a third HDD (already have 2 IDE's), I'm assuming all I have to plug it in and away I go!?

wouldnt you be better off having the sata as your boot drive and the ide for storage?
Why, how much faster would it boot up?
