    Setting a PATA drive as slave - how?

    I want to use an old PATA drive as a slave in the system in my sig, which uses a SATA drive on the Silicon Image controller. The jumper on the drive I want to use is set as follows:

    ::::I

    The drive is a WD Caviar 40GB. The jumper is therefore on the fifth column of five, two pin columns.

    The question is, where do I have to put the jumper to set this drive as a slave, given that it was obviously a master before?

    Slave and master only apply (AFAIK) when you have two drives on the same IDE channel. If you're running a SATA disc and an IDE disc and you have an OS on both discs it'll ask you which one to boot from regardless of whether the IDE drive is set as slave or not. TBH, if it's the only drive on the IDE channel, I would have thought you'd want it as the master.

    Rave is right. If you're OS is on the SATA and you have a IDE set as master just for storage it'll still boot from the SATA automatically.
