Hi, managed to bend one of the IDE connection pins on my hard drive. Its a samsung Spinpoint 1614N and i really need to get it working again. I think it happened when i tried to put the ide cable in upside down.
Really need to get this up again, has all my data on it.

Can't you just bend it back with some tweezers or something? I've had to do that before and it's worked fine.
I've bent CPU pins back after dropping CPU's and used it in my main system for a year

I had a maxtor 80 Gb that 4 pins bent on and fell out - they were held in place for years by the IDE cable and it worked fine till I decided it wasn't worth saving and dropped it out the window
Well, i tried tweezers and they didn't work, normal ones were too big and the small ones on my pen knife were too flimsy. Theres only agout 1mm showing. Eventually got it out with the small scissors on my pen knife. The contact on the other side was originally 1 piece and its now 2 but the pieces of metal are touching i think....i hope it works!
I once bent a pin on a CDRW drive (back when they were still £80). Bent it back with a screwdriver and it's still going now. Just do it slowly and carefully, don't wiggle it any more than necessary as you'll fatigue the metal and make it more prone to breaking.
Most pins can usually be bent two or three times before they come off. Make sure it is very straight though and use an IDE cable slips easily easily into place.
- I did this with a CD writer and tried all the drivers and everything and eventually dismantled the drive to pieces only to find that a pin was bent at the back. glad I did dismantle it, it was an Iomega CD writer.

The best tool for this is a 0.7mm propelling pencil - the tip can hold the pin like a sleeve without slipping.

Well i have a backup of a ll work on my pen drive but i don't have all those GBs of music backed up!
Anyway, i pulled the pin out and lined up the contacts and its all working as normal now
So back up them all now.

I thought having all my docs on a seperate partition to windows and programs was a good enough backup! Plus its all on my pen drive.
I dont have a dvd writer and no external hard drive! Cant be arsed to keep putting in my old hard drive to backup to it
