Has anyone got any benchmark results on these two cpu's? Would be very interesed to see the difference in performace on these two badboys!!

I remember seing a review ages ago, think the FX55 is just a bit quicker, seing as its AMDs flagship
Anyway, them San Diegos should clock pretty well, I'm guessing that the XP4000 would outpace the FX55 if clocked well.

Even stock perfromace won't be that different. 5% at the most.
It was here :-) http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews...lld19JRD04ODg=
The fx is slightly better and has an unlocked multiplyer, which is good for OC. But apparentally the 4000+ sans are good OCs too, even better!

I've seen 3600MHz+ 3DMarks on FX-55's. Don't think you'll be seeing 4000+'s doing that.
Probably becasue the people who can afford cooling able to do that can aslo afford FX-55s without much hassle.
Can you reduce the multipliers on the AMD64 ranges??? i thought they allowed that now - if so, overclocking should be just as good with either - although probably better with a 90nm E0 stepping.
Yes, you can. But remember, the FSB can only go so high, and clocks are generally more stable with a higher multiplier and lower FSB.

Definitely true - although i would happilly sacrifice a 0.5 multiplier gain to get more FSB even if overall clock speed was lower. If it is just a race to get clock speed then yeah multis are the best way becuase when you really overclock AMD chips they hate to work at FSB more than 2Mhz above 200 for some reason - well, thats been my experience anyway.
I think a FSB of 250 with a 11 multi is very nice though (thinking of the 4400+ X2 ). Nice with PC4000. It just feels right
LOL
Do the 400+ san's need motherbord bios upgrades, ive got a freind whos thinking of getting one.
I wouldnt mind knowing if the san diego's work out of the box or not - currently on an SN25P so more than a little concerned
Never buy a dwarf with learning difficulties. Its not big and its not clever.
No not at the moment, you would need to run a BIOS update. Looks like theres only 2 ways, borrow an old amd 64 CPU and run it using the update tool or download it from the mobo site and run from floppy.....
Yes, you can reduce the multipliers. Still you often need to rasie them to get the absolute max OC that is possible with the more extreme cooling. The clock generator on most motherboards becomes a limiting factor before 300+ MHz.Originally Posted by cah
