EPIA TV out
As i cant search for it (4 letter minimum length :() ill have to ask.
Wots the VIA TV out like on a EPIA? Compared to a geforce TV out on say a shuttle? Im gonna be using the PCI slot.
I want a silent system, but its gotta have good TV out :S Shuttles arent silent, EPIAs can be, but ive no experience with them.

looks decent. why is it i ALWAYS seem to find it after i ask heh.
Anyone with first hand experience though?
Also anyone know how tall one is (with and without the fan).
-
The heatsink on the M10000 is 23mm tall (including the board itself) with the fan on top it is 33mm tall.
The tallest part of the M10000 is the audio can which stands at 40mm tall.
On the TV out side, I have had no problems at all with my M10000 Nehemiah.

Thanks mucho! :)
What would u compare the quality like to? As good as geforce/radeon?

EPIA can be silent although I have yet to achieve it !. Be very very choosy on your equipment and case choice if you are after aboslute silence. The ME6000 will run fanless in a cubid case but get uncomfortably warm IMHO. Also don't forget to keep an eye on HDD temps on any system you put together.

I was gonna whack it all in a maplin project box. Id prefer a hush but really cant afford it. Harddisk temps shouldnt be a problem, as long as i dont stuff it in cotton wool it should be ok.
-
how big a project box ?
Also whats your current hardware plan - drive type, pci cards, psu etc ?
-
I *think* its something along the lines of:
EPIA M with half height PCI LAN card (id get the CL except it doesnt have TV out). Project box is 398x253x51mm. 110W Lex DC fanless psu, pioneer 106s and a 120gig barra 5 the latter 2 ive already got so wanna reuse. Id prefer to use a full height pci LAN card cause ive got 4 sitting in a draw already :/ Ive got a 12-15dB panaflo 80mm fan for cooling if need be. My only concern is the alu is thin and the seagate is loud (25dB+).
I marked out the sizes in the case and it does all fit :) although i cant use a PCI riser cause the DVD drive is pretty hefty. Id prefer a shuttle though but they arent as quiet as i need :( A SN41G2 in black with a black pioneer slot loader would look the muts and i could use it for lans but the psu fans are noisy and cause im using the onboard video id need to keep the fan on the northbridge too.
Price wise i dont think there's much in it. SN42G in black, 1800 or cheap ass 1.6 duron, 1x256meg stick of ram which is upgradable later if i need the performance vs EPIA-M and a 110W LEX PSU. Plus i dont have to mod the shuttle extensively cause i dont have time in uni.

You might need the fan but I would imagine if you do need it that running it 7volts would be all thats required.
I seem to remember another machine in one of those maplin boxes, used coloured fans and looked sweet, think he had two fans in it from memory, can't remember the rest of the kit though and can't seem to find the link either :(
In case you haven't already seen them ....
This is one of the few true passive cooled setups I have seen :

& this one is using a very similar size project box to your plan (but with 2 little fans for sys and psu cooling):

I had another hunt for that case but still can't find it. Did come across two other projects using maplins type slimline boxes though which may be interesting :

Im having a torn moment in my head though.

Thanks for the info Dfhaii and thanks for the effort elneckio! Im much appreciating it! :)
