If your after decent overclocks I can personally recommend the corsair XL range.

I have the xpert XL ( with the gimmicky LEDS just so I can swear at people ) and this memory is rated upto 500 Mhz ( 250 Mhz DDR ) without an issues.

All I need now is a CPU that could keep up with my memory when pushing over 235 Mhz

I have some Corsair XMS which is doing me fine. I don't know what it'll get to because I havn't needed to take it that far yet ! Its been up to about 235 with no problems.
It's not too expensive (£100 for 2x512 IIRC).
And it shouldn't break, being Corsair.

Me too. It's doing quite well on the OCing front. Timings not to slack either. Im not into extreme OCing, but will be upgrading my HSF. It's that what held me back so far, so hopefully my RAM can go a little further yet but im not expecting miracles though.

You say gaming RAM, so I'd say you'd need a Gigabyte. This is a 2x512Mb matched pair, exactly what Dom and I run, and is good value for £92.
That's the stuff i'd suggest (unless you have much more money to spend).

The XL runs @ 2.0-2-2-5 timings and is rated up to operate upto 500 Mhz as it uses samsung TCCD DDR500 chips instead of 400 Mhz chips - this is how corsair get the low latency and fast timings where the other memory is rated to run upto 550 Mhz with timings of 2.5-4-4-8.

To be honest you have to look at your system and think - Would I get a 550 Mhz FSB from my current setup?

Realistically your not going to approach an FSB of 550 Mhz unless you happen to be using either an FX-55 or FX-57.

Both sets are excellent memory modules, with the XL running and much tighter timings but not being able to reach such an high operating speed. Usually the 550 Mhz memory is used in the Intel P4 based systems as they had an operating speed of 800 Mhz ( 200 Mhz quad pumped with 400 Mhz DDR memory support ) and couls take more advantage of the faster ram as they have higher operating ceilings.

    Hope this explains everything

Thats not exactly what he said it does 2-2-25 @ 400mhz, youll have to come of it some to get 500, i also dont like the way corsair rate their timings, dont know if they do it for those particular modules, but a lot are listed as good timings, with a proviso that youll only get something mediocre on AMD.

Thanks - typo alert, was on the phone, researching and updating the system here

I've reached 475Mhz with close timings - abeit I needed to up the voltage to near maximum and I was playing with an FX-57 at the time.

With the timings relaxed you can reach 500 Mhz - and they tend to generally reach timings of about 2.5-3-3-8 which is still pretty nippy for its operational speeds.

    My 3000+ can run 300x9
AND, you can ALWAYS reduce your multiplier to get to 275FSB(DDR550). If you really mean 550FSB FX-55/57 couldn't do it as well.
I will have 2 pairs of TCCD which will run 600-2.5-4-3-x for sale soon

    200.......

The thing is i could buy the 1gb now, but i'll just end up needing 2gb soon. From what i understand its best to use 2 sticks rather than 4.
