    Unhappy This makes me want to cry..

    My mate i nthe U.S.A put a pc together using US prices: My budget is about 1000.:

    CASE and MOBO: SN25P = 359

    CPU: San diego 4000+ = 485

    GFX: BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express = 270

    RAM: 1gb Corsair XMS PC3200 2-2-2-5 = 191

    HD: 2x Western Digital Raptors 74GBx2 10,000 RPM sata = 332

    floppy = 8

    DVD Burner/Cd Burner Combo = 55

    total = 1700

    I could get a pc anywhere near that from UK sites, its so depressing knowing what u can get if u bought from US. Is there anyway i can buy from US. I mean i have a mate that lives over there, but im scared they will charge silly amounts at customs.

    Anyone help me out?

    Have your friend buy it, assemble it, and take it to the UK, then leave it there. He can say it is his (as it would be, untill its yours). I don't think they can charge you for your luggage.

    ...and raptors aren't worth it.

    You should move to America, those prices are just one good thing about it. It's a great country. I'm probably gonna move over there.

    lol, not quite the short term goal i was looking for m3trj, but yes america is a good country but im probably going to move over to canada due to the fact its jsut like america but people look after themselves more and its cleaner with a few less mcdonalds. Plus if i wanna go to the US its a jsut a road trip away.
    Anyway back to my main point, and ideas on how much shipping a shuttle pc from US to UK would cost and if thats the only cost you will have to pay?

    They'll probably screw you 20% (with shipping). i.e If you buy it at $1K and the shipping is $100 the custom will probably screw you around $220. In most case it doesn't worth it.

    wrong. When you buy dell products in the usa they will not fix them in the uk. It states it in the smallprint.

    There have been people who have bought monitors off ebay from america, which have then gone wrong only to find that dell will not fix them in this country. Beware!

    Dont forget that shipping will cost a fortune and then you can add vat on top at 17.5% followed by any other import duty there may be. Get it from here and save yourself the hassle cos if something goes wrong youll be in the crapper.

    The only way around customs is to declare the stuff as a gift of low value. that way you dont pay tax.

    just spoke to my mate in the US and he said they wont charge and VAt or import duty if its sent as a gift. But if it came from a company then they will do, but if i send to his address then he ships he said it will be fine. You think that sounds right>

    Not neccisarily. (cant spell) it depends on how much the 'gift' is worth. However im not sure on the price. I would say a £1000 PC would cost you though.
