    NF4 Overclocking?

I'm trying out the AI Overclock function on my asus a8n atm. sory about the rhyme) Int he settings theres AI Overclcok and AI NOS whats the difrence? They both seem to have similer settitgs. 10% Overcloking on the AI overclock seems to have been sucsessful, but im not sure if its the best thing to do?

Its very easy, thats what atracted me to it, any one else tryed them out?

I tried them and found them to break things, especially when they turn themselves on without my prior consent. I only realised it was on after my PC rebooted and some woman informed my my system had failed due to CPU overclock.

Sufficient to say I prefer manual overclocking in the BIOS. However if it works for you, then go for it. Sadly I have no idea which [AI/NOS] is better.

I like Asus a lot, but their AI has way too much A and not nearly enough I.

Search Yahoo or Google for Athlon 64 or A64 Overclocking Guide. Then read a lot. Read until you understand all about BIOS settings, RAM timings, different types of cooling and most importantly the core of your A64 (Newcastle, Clawhammer, Winchester, etc...). Then come back here if you have specific questions about what you've read or found out on your computer.

Automatic overclocking doesn't work very well because there are too many variables that affect your system's ability to be overclocked.

It seems to be working ok, but then its only a very small overclock. I think soon when i have better cooling sorted that doing a proper Bios overclock will bet the way.

I'm sure Trippledance has more I than the AI!! Personally I like to oc manually, that way I can take it nice and slow and monitor the effects of the oc. That way if anything starts to look dodgy I can back off and investigate. Machines/software maybe able to do most things quicker but they don't have intuition, gut instinct, experience and a sense of what's possible and what's not!

Slow, Steady, Sure and Patience usually brings good results. Boring but true.

You could use Pifast as a measure of speed, but I think Prime95 would be more important - it's a good test of stability, just run the torture test.
